but Iran is such a potentially great example b/c the Obama admin was run by Valerie fricking Jarrett, who was born in Iran and has lots of connects there

I have never liked russia. Up until a few months ago, I always thought they were our enemy. Now I question whether the US gov't believes that.

They hate Russia because they are white and nominally christian.
That's also why LGBT groups, feminist, and Islam come together on the left even though they have conflicting interest. It's their mutual hatred for Christians and traditional western values that supersedes those lines and binds them together.
Further, the left sees no reason to excuse the violent homophobia and sexism associated with Islam, anyway. If you haven't noticed, they simply will not allow their minds to acknowledge its existence at all.

They don't really. They just need a bogeyman to scare people and it doesn't matter who that bogeyman is.
If they had anything positive to offer in terms of domestic policy they wouldn't need an outside enemy. (See the 1990s.)

They hate Russia because Trump is alleged to be friendly with Russia.
Before Trump, both parties overwhelmingly disapproved of Putin. Now, Republicans have nearly an even split on Putin (which is totally fricked up by the way).
I agree with you on resentment toward Christianity, but I think that merely explains the double standard (why tyrannical MENA regimes are ok but Russia is a problem).

At best Religious "believers" of any kind is less than 10% of the former Soviet Union.

Because they can whine and say Trump's President only because Russia helped him steal the election, for 8 years. It's completely illogical and irrational, but it helps them sleep better at night.
