Open primary systems make zero sense. Why should a person be allowed to vote for a party’s candidate if they don’t belong to the party?

To give the parties more power to control what candidates make the runoff. They didn’t like the fact that the jungle primaries tended to result in more moderate candidates winning.

Edwin Edwards favored/started the open primary setup because he got tired of spending all of his campaign money against other democrats in the primary and then not have money against the republicans in the general.
