The four-way Istanbul meeting between military delegations of Russia, Turkey and Ukraine and UN representatives on export of Ukrainian grain is over, the Turkish Defense Ministry announced Wednesday.
The meeting took place at a military facility behind closed doors.
Establishment of the so-called grain corridor was discussed on June 8 in Ankara by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu. On June 21, military delegations of Turkey and Russia discussed the grain export in Moscow. At that time, the hotline between the Defense Ministries of Turkey, Russian and Ukraine on grain export was announced.
Following the June 28-30 NATO summit in Madrid, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated Ankara’s readiness to work on the export of agricultural products via the Black Sea. According to Erdogan, there are about 20 Turkish trade ships in Ukrainian ports ready to transport the grain.
On July 8, Sergey Lavrov said after the G20 Ministerial meeting that Russia is ready for a negotiations process with Ukraine and Turkey on grain export, adding that the military will play the key role in this process.

Governments should put a moratorium on the use of biofuels and lift bans on genetic modification of crops, a green campaigning group has urged, in the face of a growing global food crisis that threatens to engulf developing nations. Ending the EU’s requirement for biofuels alone would free up about a fifth of the potential wheat exports from Ukraine, and even more of its maize exports, enough to make a noticeable difference to stretched food supplies, according to analysis by the campaign group RePlanet. About 3.3m tonnes of wheat were used in 2020 as feedstock for EU biofuels, and Ukraine’s 2020 wheat exports came to about 16.4m tonnes.

Agreements in principle have been reached on creating the so-called grain corridor to export agricultural products across the Black Sea, Turkish Defense Minister Hulusi Akar said on Monday.
"As for a plan of exporting grain and agricultural products, an agreement in principle has been reached. A meeting of Turkish, Russian, Ukrainian and UN representatives, which will finalize it in a corresponding document, may be organized this week," NTV quoted him as saying.
According to the minister, the meeting will focus on the establishment of a coordination center, joint control at the ports of departure and arrival, as well as routes for shipping agricultural products.
"Turkey continues to exert efforts to implement the initiative of creating a grain corridor and finalizing it as an official document," he noted.
Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Igor Konashenkov said on July 15 that participants in the meeting of the so-called grain issue in Turkey had supported Russia’s proposals and the work on the final document would soon be finished.
Talks on the establishment of a grain corridor were held in Istanbul on July 13. They were attended by military delegations from Russia, Turkey, Ukraine, and representatives from the United Nations. UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres said after the meeting that it was a major step toward ensuring safe and reliable food export from Ukraine across the Black Sea.

Putin:
The grain issue. It is what we discussed with the President of Turkey. I have already said that the Republic of Turkey and personally President Erdogan have done a great deal to facilitate the agreement on Ukrainian grain exports. But initially we suggested that it should be adopted as a package, that is, we would facilitate the Ukrainian grain exports provided all the restrictions on the potential exports of Russian grain are lifted. This is what we initially agreed upon with international organisations. They pledged to formulate this as a package solution. Nobody has so far raised any objections, including our American partners. We will see what comes of it in the near future.
As you know, the Americans have actually lifted restrictions, for example, on the delivery of Russian fertilisers to the global market. I hope this will also happen with regard to the export of Russian grain if they really want to improve the situation on the global food markets. As I have said, we are ready to do this right now. We can export 30 million tonnes of grain, and our export potential based on this year’s harvest will be 50 million tonnes.

According to Ukraine’s Defense Ministry Intelligence Directorate, on July 13, the Russian dry cargo ships Matros Koshka and Matros Pozhynich with 54 tons of Ukrainian grain planned to enter the port of Beirut, but the Lebanese authorities prohibited the ships from unloading there, so the they were redirected to the ports of Latakia and Tartus in Syria. From there, Ukrainian grain will be delivered to Middle East and North Africa, according to the intelligence.

Russia is ready to allow the export of Ukrainian grain if all sanctions related to the export of Russian grain are removed, Russian dictator Vladimir Putin said in Tehran, as quoted by Le Monde. Despite the fact that the countries that imposed sanctions against Russia due to the invasion of Ukraine have repeatedly emphasized that sanctions don't apply to food supplies from Russia, the Kremlin claims that the sanctions affect shipping insurance, payments, and access to European ports.
