arsenal accepts 5 clubs' bids for Beowulf. price tag around £3m. bo' 'gladbach, eintracht Frankfurt, and besiktas are supposedly 3 of the clubs. he will decide next week where he'll go. I actually think he could be a fairly solid striker for a mid-table club.

PSG talk to Laudrup as Ancelotti moves closer to Real Madrid
quote:
French newspaper ‘L’Equipe’ has reported that Paris Saint-Germain have opened talks with Swansea manager Michael Laudrup with a view to the former Denmark international taking over as coach next season. Laudrup’s appointment at the Parc des Princes would leave the way clear for Carlo Ancelotti to move to Real Madrid. Laudrup is under contract at Swansea until June 2015, meaning that PSG will be required to negotiate his release with the Premier League club. The ex-Real Madrid and Barcelona player, who guided the Swans to the Capital One Cup last season, agreed a contract extension at the Liberty Stadium in March. Meanwhile, Ancelotti has repeatedly confirmed his desire to leave PSG in recent days. Once he seals his exit from the Ligue 1 club, he will be named Real Madrid coach.

And Leverkusen waste no time in grabbing Schurrle's replacement, Heung-Min Son from HSV.

Aston Villa sign Dutch youngster Leandro Bacuna.

villa busy: just official: Danish defender Jores Okore
Posted on 6/13/13 at 10:56 am to WarSlamEagle
Apparently they are going to get Son for around €10mm, slick profit on Schürrle. Wonder where they will invest the rest? Probably try and replace Carvajal, he's really solid. They have a lot of good youth players, they are set up to be pretty stable over the coming years.

Tonev and Okore are both official. Haven't seen that Bacuna has signed yet. Hopefully the Helenius deal will be done in the next couple of days, probably for ~£2mm.
Glad to see we're getting our business done early, lambert is very different than MON in that regard. We still need to make a bunch of signings, this is a list of players that are/should be on the way out: Dunne, given, Ireland, Hutton, makoun, Holman, bent, lichaj, Stevens, Dawkins and possibly albrighton, n'zog, and Bannan.

You don't really see Fellaini going to Arsenal do you? He's not the kind of player Arsene signs (age, peak value, EPL experience) and more importantly, if y'all have a transfer accepted, united, city or Chelsea will come in and make him a better offer. I would love to see him go to Arsenal (not so much Higuain though) but I just can't see it happening.

well, I think you can throw out the book this summer with regards to "typical Arsene signings." he's only 25. the reason we've shied away from players of a certain age or experience because of money, not for lack of want.
It will still be interesting to see how Wenger handles the increased spending power. rumors abound of his hemming and hawing on fees costing us deals, though their veracity is questionable. we'll just have to see how he manages it.
I don't think we'll buy Fellaini because he's overpriced and not a great fit for us.

There has been a distinct shift in the type of player Arsene signs since 2011, much like there was a distinct shift in the signing policy after 2005. Mertesacker is definitely not the prototypical Wenger signing in terms of CB's, but he bought him. I can see why we are linked with Fellaini, but this notion of a typical Wenger signing should be discarded.

Possibly, but since he has a release clause, we will be able to negotiate with him directly. We've just had around £200k a week in wages free up, so we can definitely match anything other teams offer him if we so choose. With the new deals coming in this and next summer, plus our massive cash reserves, we can offer a lot more in terms of wages, as Gazidis said in a recent Q&A, we are looking to redo our wage structure.
If we buy Fellanini and Higuain, we're probably going to change formations, or at least be more tactically nuanced, rather than just stick to a specific formation or system.
What people don't realize about Wenger is that while he's tactically stubborn in games, he isn't afraid to adopt the newest style. I think he was inspired by Bayern Munich, as he was inspired by Spain in 2010, to adopt a system that mimics theirs.

Mertesacker was very experienced, certainly not old for a CB, and it was widely known he was available at the time. He might not be a typical arsene signing but he was good value for money at a position you were weak in.

Well your wage structure has become a joke so not like Gaizidis has much of a choice there. As soon as it is announced that somebody has triggered Fellainis release clause I have a feeling atleast 2-3 other clubs come in for him, and I just don't see Arsenal winning that battle.

Is Arsenals current system all that different than the one Bayern plays? I think the difference is more personnel than tactics. I don't see Higuain leading the line by himself successfully in the EPL, he has huge talent I'm just not so sure EPL is the league for him, Juve would be a better move.

He was great value, but he isn't a ball-playing CB. Wenger loves the ball-playing CB. Wenger has never bought a CB who wasn't at least decent on the ball. Mertesacker is by far the worst ball-playing CB we've had in the Wenger era. In fact, Mertesacker's inability to actually pick a decent forward pass contributed to our stagnant mid-season form.

Well I think Wenger sees Fellaini as a Javi Martinez clone, and while Fellaini isn't nearly as good on the ball as Martinez, and he doesn't fit into the short passing game very well, he could possibly be molded into a Martinez clone, though I'm skeptical.
Also I don't see how Higuain fits into our system at all. I'd rather not have him, but we will see.

This happened quite famously with Mata. We had him, but Wenger hesitated. An instance, among some others, where his prudence made him passive, to the detriment of our squad.
