49 million and rumors of close to 200k a week wages
Almost as bad as DiMaria/Falcao

Di Maria makes 160k a week and is a world class player. If you pay 45+ million for a player you expect world class. Sterling isn't
Falcao was a fail of a loan

Sometimes you just have to pay to get the guy you want. Sterling is a perfect fit for what City need and have been lacking the past 2 seasons.
Everyone seems hung up on the money. Who gives a shite? It isn't my money. It isn't yours.
We just landed a 20-year old HG winger with great potential. He's going to be NASTY with Silva and Aguero.

That cost a shite load of money in wages.

He didn't come close to living up to that ridiculous fee and it looks like MU is about to take a loss on him. World class my nuts.

We are not going to sell him unless we get back close to what we paid. Yes he is still world class, dude was 3rd in the EPL in assist and he had a very down year. Next year will be telling bc he clearly needed a year to acclimate to the league.

We understand Manchester United will pay £14.4million to Bayern Munich for the services of Bastian Schweinsteiger. The player is currently having a medical with the club hoping to seal a deal quickly before they fly off on their pre-season tour tomorrow.

Drop a shite load. Pretty 'meh' season. Still a world class player.
Sterling fills multiple needs being a winger and HG. PLUS he's already shown great promise in the EPL and he's only 20. It's a shite load of money sure, but you have the english premium to thank for that. It could seriously pay off in the future.

He hasn't proven shite when it comes down to it. You paid the price of a proven world class player. Its very telling you didn't see any other clubs knocking on the door for him, esp at that price.

Exactly. It pisses everyone off because Money is no object to City and they will pay literally whatever it takes to get someone, which results in a highly inflated market. I can understand why non-City fans don't like it, but I personally love big dicking everyone with the funds we have available and over paying. Like you said, it isn't my money so i don't give a frick.

I would say he's far above average but a short step below world class.

Its the only way you guys can get players by paying inflated wages unless its Fabian Delph, or KDB, Ramos, Pogba, Wilshre.

ever heard the phrase form is temporary class is permanent
he didn't just stop having world class talent

Tbf, di Maria's class has always been wildly variable
Need a pretty restrictive definition of world class to exclude him, though

Again, who gives a frick? At the end of the day is success measured by results or by some wages-to-table ratio? Do you gain something by the Sheikh M spending money? No? So why does it matter?

World class drops into any squad and wrecks shite. DiMaria didn't do that. He's really good. He isn't "60-mil WC" good.

For me, consistency is a large part of it. It's the same reason I don't rate Yaya high. He's fricking brilliant when he gives a shite but it is becoming more and more rare.

SCH, I agree with you on this one even as a City fan. I'm not a huge fan of this move. Sterling was a huge bitch towards the end of his Liverpool days and handled this transfer situation horribly. If we paid this much for someone I wanted a world class guy like DiMaria.
Hopefully he can improve moving forward but right now he's just a young Navas with more potential. His finishing is awful right now.

I just don't get trying to justify paying 49 million for a 20 year old worth 20 million less than that.

Real value ~20mill
English (and on national team) +10
City +5
Sky +5
Then you just add in the "youth" overpay and you get this insanely stupid price.

quote:This is actually where I think the club has failed over the past 3-4 seasons. They tried too hard to find value, instead of just buying quality. That's how they ended up with an older club with a bunch of squad players. Sometimes you just have to buy players, even if it's over their market value.
Money is no object to City and they will pay literally whatever it takes to get someone
We need to move past it anyway. The market value for players is not what it was 5 years ago or even what it was 2 years ago. With all the money comes, not only more clubs who have the money, but also less financial need to sell, both of which will inflate the market.
As far as I'm concerned, Sterling is the only young English player who has shown any ability to be world class. I have no problem with City filling a need by over paying for such a player. What he's worth to City is different than what he's worth to other top clubs. City need a direct, pacy left winger, and they got one that's homegrown and 20. I'm glad they didn't quibble over 10m pounds.
Now they need to give Pogba and Juve a blank check and call it a summer.

I think there was a 20% markup on Sterling because of the amount that QPR would be owed. Otherwise 30ish mil is a fine price for him.

He hasn't proven shite when it comes down to it.
He has 130 appearances for 'Pool before the age of 21. That is a rare type of experience. And given he hasn't really been injured, and is fairly productive given his situation, it is easy to understand the hype. While his final product isn't quite there, his movement is really good, and all he really needs is time in one position.
I'm guessing he'll never live up to the price tag, but he will be extremely productive for a better part of a decade.
