besides villa scoring and arsenal winning, i know nothing else.

Spoilers:

Pedro sucked
Song should have seen red
Messi scored but was called offside
Arshavin should have had a handball called against him at the end

ETA:

Also, Wilshere was great, and Arsenal may have gotten away with another handball earlier. Forgot about that one.

Yes.

Why? My Arsenal dislike (true) or my Barca love (untrue. I just like them more than Real)?

Worth the watch of a replay I'd say. There was a handball by Arshavin, there was also another but I forgot by whom, and Messi's goal wasn't offside to my eyes...but You won't see me crying about it. Arsenal deserved the win, they played a lights out second half.

I don't think Eboue was that bad this game. His runs forward kept Barca from over-pursuing Walcott. It allowed Walcott space on the ball which led to some of our more promising counter.

Clichy on the other hand...

Kocielny and Djourou were fantastic along with Wilshere.

I watched the game right after Villa's goal, and I have to say that Wilshere was mighty impressive. He dictated our play like he was a 10 year vet. Numerous times he'd get the ball out of a tight zone with superb control. Unbelievable performance.

In the first half Walcott was dangerous, but in the 2nd half they did a great job keeping him bottled. He's not very good on the ball, and it showed the few moments they pressed him near the touchline. His speed was important in our counter-attacking game.

Also it's been years since we counter-attacked in that way. If we can keep Nasri, Fabregas, and Wilshere together as a midfield unit, we should be awesome.

What a match! So glad I held out and watched it on demand. Foxsoccer.tv, you have my undying gratitude. A few post match thoughts.

-I was terrified all game after Song got cautioned at the very beginning that he was going to get sent off. His first foul was a yellow card, his second his "final warning." Poor from the ref imo, but at least he allowed him two more plain fouls after that.

-What was up with the ref stopping and pulling back play early for the foul on RvP? We clearly had an advantage. Oh well. I thought Barca were getting the benefit of the doubt in the first half from the officials, but I thought he did well in the second.

-Wilshere. Incredible.

-Arshavin. Redemption to near goat. That attempted back pass header was scary, but his goal was so, so nice.

-Szczesny was brilliant. Made a few good saves and put Barca players off just enough to cause them to take poor shots.

-Koscielny played his best game as an Arsenal player. Admittedly, this is a team he should thrive against as Barca have no strong front man or aerial threat. His pressing was great.

-What a strike by Rvp. Didn't have the best of matches, but he made up for it with that goal.

-Barca switched off a bit when Villa came off. They probably did not deserve to lose based on the totality of the match, but they didn't close it out (sounds like Arsenal, generally).

-Puyol will be back for the second leg, but the Pique ban should help us. Going to be a nerve-racking 90 minutes at the Camp Nou. I'll be sure to have my schedule clear for that match!

Wilshere and Koscielny played lights fricking out. Especially considering it was their first time to play in a knock out stage. Wilshere was the best player on the pitch for either side.

Van Persie's goal was pure technique and class. Arshavin actually put the ball on target, and lo and behold it goes in. A great match between two great squads. The return to the Nou Camp is going to be epic. I am in Saint's Super Bowl mode right now. The atmosphere at Finn's was electric.

i DVRed it and stayed off this board today, well worth it. i used to not be able to avoid the temptation to check scores but now i've realized that as long as i don't read anything watching it on DVR is the same as watching it live... and much better than watching a replay knowing the results

One more observation: Barca are like the Mike Leach Texas Tech of soccer. There's no point in comparing their passing stats to the other teams.

I was fairly shocked by how good Wilshere was. I know he's good, I'm not an Arsenal fan but their on TV here all the time so I've seen him play a lot this year and he's always looked good but he really stepped it up today, his control in tight situations actually looked a bit like Xavi.

I know Nasri, Cesc, and Arshavin all did great things on that second goal but it was really made by Wilshere.

Koscielny was impressive too.

Dude we all were.

He has unbelievable composure. His performance reminded me of Fabregas's against Real Madrid in the 05/06 season, where he pulled the strings against the likes of Zidane, except this was better. His positioning is so insanely good and his technique in tight spaces is unbelievable.
