Need help finding a soccer league for a 9 year old boy. He loves the game but has had very little teaching of the game. We have been to healing place, ascension flight, a few camps at BR soccer. However all instruction he gets is kick the ball in the goal and don’t use your hands (except for goalie).
Does anyone have recommendations on a soccer league that actually teaches the kids how to play and the rules?
I grew up in the time before soccer was played in Nola. I will be buying the soccer for dummies book soon so I can try and teach him.
Any help would be appreciated

For that age, your best bet is the Academy program at either Flight or BRSC.

Soccer is progressive sport, you can’t really learn it until you...and more importantly your whole team...develop the skills to play it. Kick the ball with your boy, damn near every day. Have him settle the ball, and process it back to you as quickly and controlled as he can.
That first touch and the ability to pass it off quickly and accurately will get him to a place where he can learn the sport. My son is 14, and he’s pretty much done with youth soccer...but from 9 until now he’s played it year around. The time we spent at 9 and 10 in the street kicking the ball set him up to play at the highest level in the region.
Don’t send him out there with no skills. BRSC or LA Fire, whichever practices closer.
