Said on MIB podcast yesterday that if he could change one thing it would be to train 7 days a week. I was unaware that it was as little as 4 days a week at many of these academies. Also mentioned that parents pay a lot for those services.

How many games do they play per week (assuming they play games?)

If none should be at least 5 days.

We practiced and/or played 6 days a week in high school and our team was terrible.

And this is why we aren't the best. It's not a lack of athletes.

Ridiculous travel requirements, and 2 games weekends hinder more practices. They should require DA academies to be residential.

We practiced up to 8 times a week in high school. Every other day in PE and every day after school.

Honestly, it got me pretty burnt out on the game. It wasn't much fun and felt like a job.

Lol training four days a week is most likely optimal. Recovery and active rest are very important for athletes.

Skill should be augmented by athleticism, not the other way around.

It is a job if you are in an academy. The players who are destined to be usmnt will seperate themselves. Read stories of Harry Kane's or Kobe Bryant's work ethic

Being a pro is a job and a lifestyle.

Last year only a little more than 20 academies were fully funded. We need to raise that number.

I also think it would be great if the academies were residential.

At the Dynamo Academy we trained 4x a week and typically had two games on the weekends. I felt that was enough. The practices are extremely taxing and guys needed time to rest and take care of their bodies. Most posters here don’t realize how much more taxing those DA practices/games are than say, BRSC. The game is so much faster and it requires so much more work.

i wouldnt have a clue. but i figure Friedel learned shite when he was getting his coaching licenses overseas so they must do more than 4 days a week there if he said it was the one thing he would change about the us development if he had a choice

I think it's fair to say he's been around the game a bit.

Well I just looked up what Ajax does:

Before age 12 they train 3x a week. By age 15 they train 5x a week.

And now that I think about it, our 15/16s and 17/18s did train on Friday. They just kept it light and short. We just didn't train GKs on Friday.

My time mostly predated the DA, and the teams I played for were definitely a couple of levels below the elite teams, but I still remember the occasional weekend with 3-4-5 70+ minute games that the DA moved away from. Training 7 days a week just seems like a move back in that direction.

Looking at the DA website, they just specify that teams must train a minimum of 4 days a week with 1 rest day, which seems reasonable.

This is why the soccer board was created. A place for people so defensive about the game that they take everything seriously.

That said, if he thinks kids training more days per week is going to turn us into a power, he's an idiot.
