Evidently, Guzan is considered to be in better form than Howard at the moment by Jurgy. Sure, the Messi free kick was brilliantly placed, but Guzan was, once again, out of position. He is by far, the least talented keeper we've started since the early 90s. He's had his moments for sure. Unfortunately, more times than not, he's been caught flat footed, out of position, or beaten to the near post.

You say this like it's a bad thing. We've had world class keepers since the early 90s.

And he is in better form than Howard.

There are world-class sides all over the world that would kill to have our keepers for the past two decades. We're fine.

Exactly. Just stating the facts. Hey, I want to see him succeed as much as anyone. I've just seen people calling others idiots for pointing out the fact that he is not as good as we've come accustomed to.

But he is still very good. He's not some scrub.

I'm not sure what you want to accomplish. He's the best we have at this moment.

Guzan is a fine keeper. i think we've been alittle spoiled by Timmy being a total monster for almost a decade and are now seeing what an above average keeper looks like, instead of one who will be an alll-time usmnt great.

Less talented than Nick Rimando? Also, Guzan starts for a club that's in a higher league than any other keeper in our pool.

England comes to mind. Our only problem with GK is that for the first time I don't see the next one that is on the same level as Keller or Friedle.

I do think there is reason for general concern with our keeper pool. The fact that David Bingham is getting call ups terrifies me as a Quakes fan who has seen him play a lot. Great shot stopper, nerve-wracking decision-maker.

Guzan is pretty good though. Wasn't great last night for the first goal but whatever.

When was there another time this tournament that he was out of position?

We US fans have been spoiled with great gk, and now we don't know how to react when one has a decent game, but overall very solid tournament.

He's appeared in 21 games for the USMNT compared to 49 for Guzan and 108 for Howard. I wouldn't call that completely insignificant, though I realize most of those 21 were probably friendly. Mainly I was just reacting to the OP's clear overreaction about Guzan supposedly being terrible.

Meh, between Horvath, Cropper, Steffen and Hamid... we should hit on at least one of those young guys.

Again, never said Guzan was terrible. Just simply not yet on the level of our last 20 yrs of world class keepers. And Rimando? Lol Come on dude, you know what I was saying. He has never been the #1! You know that (Hopefully). And Howard will hopefully work hard and genuinely desire the chance to regain his position as the #1 long before we reach Russia. 75% of Howard is better than 100% Guzan.
