I thought Beckerman would have been the best for his defensive discipline and ability to recycle possession, but there was no good option.
He's way too slow against any decent team.

He was slower than I remember.

Regardless, 95% of the team played like crap. Nagbe, Pulisic, etc would not have mattered at all.

I honestly feel like this whole game was the result of some poor roster selections before the tournament even started. We had almost no impact subs on our bench when guys like danny williams, lletget, finlay, morris, lichaj, feilhaber, and kljestan were either not on the final roster or in the picture period. Putting in beckerman and wondo should not have even been an option as they should not have been on the roster in the first place.

three questionable moves by jurgen, 3 goals.

beckerman: loses his man, gives up a goal.

wondo: plays a terrible ball, recovers to foul, gives up a goal.

birnbaum: subbed on instead of a more reliable choice in Besler. fricks up a simple play in front of his own box, gives up a goal.

It's kind of amazing the praise he was getting before this game for basically making the obvious decisions.

What was Nagbe's passing rating? Pretty sure it was 100% or nearabouts. GOOD frickING THING HE DIDN'T START. BUT I'M GLAD BIRNBAUM GOT SOME QUALITY PLAYING TIME.

Absolutely you can. Wondo and Beckerman had no business being out there.

That's what I figured. I mean it's not like our midfield was sucking tonight, or anything. It's not like we could have used some control, especially when we struggle so much with a high press.

Jurgen fricking Klinsmann.

i wish i could convince myself that we were 3 or 4 changes from winning this game, hell even 5 or 6. but watching that game it looked like we needed a better player in 8 or 9 positions to make any difference.

better organization and player selections would have solved 2 of those goals

are we trying to talk about ways or players to prevent more argentina goals or how we could actually have a lineup to play a straight up game with argentina?

if we are just talking about preventing 2 out of 4 goals that just sounds like bunkering better

Being able to possess the ball more and actually get a shot off could also prevent one or two of their goals.

we needed to bunker better and counter better

we also needed better support in front of the back line

wondo (esp being paired with dempsey), zusi, and beckerman invalidate all of that

I don't know if we ever would have won but with the lineup he trotted out to start the game we never stood a chance

Argentina is obviously on a completely different level than the US. However, Klinsmann made this match harder for the US. When I saw his lineup my eyes popped out on stems.

I agree that Argentina would always be the better team but our tactics were all wrong

the problem is our development isnt there. we cant trap and control a ball with a defender nearby. Zardes wouldnt be in Argentinas player pool and he was the only guy on our team that put a dangerous ball into their box the entire night. everyone wanted bradley fired after 2010 because we played too defensively. everyone wants jurgen fired now because we play too defensively in our selections. these guys havent been bad/defensive managers at other teams. its just smart managing playing more defensively when you are levels below the team you are facing. jurgy has stressed since day 1 that the entire youth system needed an overhaul.

you arent going to beat barcelona with the talent of west ham. i'm sorry i dont care how u line up. and if you think west hams manager wouldnt line up defensive as frick ur just too blind to see what's right in front of our eyes
