I think putting Wondolowski and Beckerman in the XI was a mistake.

Regardless, the players on the pitch played poorly. Our passes were slow, our touches were bad and our movement was stagnant. Everyone played poorly, and that exacerbated the technical gap. So yeah, we need to get better players, yada yada, but we also need the players that we put out there to play their best when we play the best in the world.

The two things that pleased me from last night, and offers some consolation:
1) We tried to attack. We didn't sit back like scared minnows as we did against Belgium
2) We never stopped fighting.

Who do you think should have been Plan B for either of them?

Others have already answered you but I will too. Morris is more like Wood than Wondo ever was or will be. Williams is much more athletic and willing to get forward like Jones than Beckerman ever was or will be.

Name the U.S. players without obvious flaws who you think could have prevented the thrashing we witnessed. Newsflash for you, those players do not exist for the U.S.

You must have missed the part of my post where I conceded that we don't have a starting XI that could win that game but the one we chose was wrong.

You seriously don't think Morris would have done better than Wondolowski? Nagbe, Acosta, Williams, and Kitchen couldn't have done better than Beckerman? Really? At the very least, it would give them experience going forward.

Just because they still wouldn't have won means that we shouldn't even try?

My exact thoughts.

I respect what Poodlebrain is saying but I think he is over rotating on the negativity.

If we play Argentina 100 times we win 5/100 in my opinion and probably 3 of them are on PKs. No one expected us to win.

However, we would want to give ourselves the best chance to win and develop our next generation of talent. Playing Wondo and Beckerman is against both of those points.

Both Morris and Williams are better choices in my opinion and they were not even on the 23. Ethan Finlay at RW could have been an interesting prospect as well. All three of those are young talents that would have gotten exposure that can only benefit then for club and country. Nagbe could have played way more than 25 minutes. Pulisic arguably could have been a starter. I view the inclusion of all of these guys more productive than Wondo and Beckerman. We gained nothing from those two being on the pitch.

I would have put a lineup of:

Yedlin Cameron JAB Besler
Pulisic Bradley Williams Fabs
Dempsey Morris

If we go down, then bring on Nagbe or Zardes and get more offensive early. If it is close late and Pulisic is gassed then bring on the more defensive capable Zusi.

Also, our coaches need to learn go settle down the players. It was like we played hot potato with every touch. Hold possession even if it means back passes.

We may have kept possession on long balls about 20% of the time... It is on the coaches and the captain to keep the team composed.

The proposed roster changes would have been as effective in preventing the loss to Argentina as rearranging the deck chairs would have been in preventing the Titanic from sinking.

It's clear that you still don't get it.
