Well Pirlo has been running the Italian midfield since 2004. The biggest change is the back three, which allows the wingbacks to press high up the field, as well as letting Marchisio make runs from midfield to support the striker. Also De Rossi is an underrated passer himself, with the ability to make accurate passes anywhere on the pitch while also protecting Pirlo from getting marked out of the game. The Italians are set up perfectly.
The Spanish need to add width and somehow give Alba some protection on the left. Navas playing high on the right can nullify the Italian left while removing a central player can help alleviate the congestion in the middle of the pitch.

I don't see it as a big dropoff either
Balotelli is the better player but he doesn't have the guile of Gilardino, who is intelligent and efficient, despite not being as talented as Balo.

Vincent of the Forest may put Fabs in, as well (he seems quite fond of Çesc).

De Rossi back to the back 3 to make room for Montolivo.

As much as I hate agreeing with Macca, Spain needs a guy who will stay out wide right.

Here comes Jesus. Them baby blues

Try to force Giaccharini to defend with Jesus Navas wide right. Maybe you can stretch the 3 central defenders for a run forward. Silva was doing nothing.

Shut the frick up Sergio Ramos, thug POS, has no room to tell anyone to calm their play down.

Pedro is at least helping out on defense, Alba needed the help badly so that's why he's out left now. Silva was just hanging out hoping for some good service.

Italy definitely isn't creating as much this half so far.

Is that Spain's first shot on goal?

Pedro is at least helping out on defense,

I don't watch that much Serie A so this is my first real extended look at Candreva. Dude is pretty good.
Candreva and Maggio are causing problems down the right side.
