How else is a defender in that situation supposed to stop the guy? Lunging and tackling with hands is less likely to be timed sufficiently. Getting closer than totally errant on a desperation slide from behind should not result in a yellow.
The application of the rule is consistently horseshite and it should be tossed outright.

I have been drinking and the lack of knowledge on this board over the last week is just finally pushing me over
The same people who thought that was a red probably think Salah will be ‘robbed’ when CR7 wins the ballon d’Or

He wasn't playing the ball. He knew what he was doing
I mean... foot did hit ball 1st
the foul was definitely what he meant to do... but he slid into the ball

I mean, Dallas' nickname is "The Cradle of Footy Civilization" after all.

ITV just said he wasn't sent off b/c he made a genuine attempt to play the ball. The correct call was made

bullshite, goalies have almost no chance and zero chance if it’s hit correctly. Danes get advantage as they are underdogs. Nothing to lose less pressure

I think it's a great rule change.
I think if you deny a goal by fouling you should be sent off intentional or not.

Croatia deserved to end it there. Not from their second half play. But that last run was winning class.

Makes sense. Consider me one of the ignorant, at least if that rule is two years old I have an excuse, it's hard to watch and keep up with a toddler.

you get sent off if you just completely take out the man
but he made a play for the ball and got the ball
