Messi either wants out or he wants Barca to improve. Some of same obstacles affect both outcomes.

Barca to improve
Must get rid of aging players with high salaries in COVID club economy in order to pay for new players to improve the club.

Messi to leave
Messi's buyout is north of 400 million euros and his high high salary will be hard for any club to swallow. Some speculation that since Messi will be entering his final year the buyout/transfer fee could be lowered to the 100-150 million range.
