Yes, college football jerseys are expected to have sponsors soon, with the NCAA Division I Administrative Committee proposing rules (likely to pass in early 2026) allowing schools to add two commercial logo patches to game uniforms and one to equipment, a major shift from current rules that only permit apparel/manufacturer logos to generate needed revenue for programs. This change allows schools like LSU (already using practice jerseys) and Ohio State to explore deals, potentially bringing in millions, with UNLV already signing a major patch deal, setting a new trend for major programs.
Key Details of the Proposed Rule Change
When: Expected to be approved in early 2026, potentially affecting the 2026 football season.
What: Allows up to two commercial logos on game jerseys/apparel and one on equipment for non-championship events.
Why: To help schools generate more revenue to support athletics, especially with NIL costs and program funding.
Current Status: Only manufacturer logos (like Nike, Adidas) are currently allowed on uniforms.
Examples & Early Adopters
LSU: Already featuring a "Woodside Energy" patch on practice jerseys and their mascot.
UNLV: Signed a significant 5-year, $11 million jersey patch deal, setting a precedent.
Ohio State: Actively exploring potential sponsors for future patch deals.
What to Expect
Patches, Not Full Overhauls: Don't expect NASCAR-style uniforms; discussions focus on small, tasteful patches, often on the shoulder or chest.
Revenue Potential: Top programs could earn millions annually from these deals.
Industry Shift: This modernizes college sports, similar to commercial logos on field lines, with potential future impact on pro leagues.

95% of American Universities are on the Semester system so going back to quarters would make it hard to for transfers.
