Meant to share these a while back after I found this board.

I went to Spain in February for vendor training. We were in Vitoria-Gasteiz, about an hour south of Bilbao. I had planned to try to go up to Bilbao and catch an Athletic Club match as they were home, but couldn't pull it off. Found out during the week that we were staying a mile from Deportivo Alaves' stadium, the Mendizorrotza. They played a Friday night home match the last night I was in town, so I went. 35 Euros for a ticket behind the goal, and above the ultras. Here are a few photos (they played Eibar, which is a derbi as the two clubs are about 40 km apart). Alaves in blue/white and Eibar in their change green (Alaves won 2-0 and both goals were scored right in front of us).

I went to the club store in town and bought their current 3rd shirt. Wore it to the match.

Pintxo happy area, but you eat well there.

Civil and quaint, but sleepy city.

Deportivo Alavés are an amazing story, however. Perennial third/2B that has become potent 2A/La Liga yo-yo. VERY well run club with limited resources.

They're a feel good mid table side for sure.

The ground is tiny. You hear about the Bernabeu and the Camp Nou with 90K fans, but most of the Spanish grounds are under 25K. The Mendizorrotza is about 20K and there were 18K at the match I attended. For 18K fans, it was LOUD. My ears rang for a good 2 hours after the match. They kick late too; start time was 9PM local time.

I think you mean to say 40K is the average, once you drop below the top fifteen or so.
