That's not even comparable to missing several friendlies and it's honestly laughable that you even compared the two.

I'm not sure why you were so petulant in your response. Everyone knows that Klinsmann had a problem with Donovan's time off from the beginning, not just when he showed up close to the World Cup.

We had plenty of opportunities to integrate Nagbe, a player who I think would be our ideal number 10 (although he can play as a very possession oriented #8 as he has often for Portland). He should have played a major role, starting several games, in the numerous friendlies he's been called up for, and that's not to mention the Copa America (where Pulisic was also made to sit on the bench). It's not like we have players of his and Pulisic's caliber just lining the halls - dude could have stepped in and started for us from his first call up, imo, and especially once Dempsey started having heart troubles.

Instead, Jurgen keeps calling him up and then lets him sit on the bench except for a token 10-20 minutes in the last game of a series. I'm glad that Klinsmann somehow finally realized that Kljestan was part of our player pool, because he's been a revelation as our creative nidus. That said, Kljestan only got his chance because John Brooks, a defender, got injured. Only Jurgen would call up a player in a different position than the one he's replacing, and then end up starting said player in the next games... Yes, starting a player who somehow wasn't included in the first round of callups. Genius stuff by our national team manager.

I'm sad to see Nagbe moving towards Feilhaber 2.0. I would love to see him move abroad. He's 26 already and he could have easily made the move two years ago.

That was quite interesting to say the least. The player was not in the list of invitees, receives an invitation because another unrelated player is unavailable, then immediately begins a run in the starting lineup. Quite a shift.

Bitch please. Donovan was clearly the best player on our national team for the 2013 gold cup, a full year before the World Cup. When did he ever make comments about expecting to be included in the team? Leading up to the selection he always said he would help in whatever capacity he could. Sure, months after the world cup he said he thinks he should have been included in the squad. Well yeah, no shite, everyone knows this, because it's not difficult for even the untrained eye to see that Brad fricking Davis is not as good of a soccer player as Landon Donovan. Let's not bring the most clutch player in our nation's history to a tournament where he would be our best player at wing, attacking mid, and forward. Ha ha, what a joker that Jurgen is.

Let's just hope this situation gets better and he works him self back into the USMNT picture. He would be a good asset to have especially if we have surprise injuries before the WC.

Frank Lampard included him in his top five MLS:

The safer bet, unfortunately, is that our coach will let a petty squabble get in the way of improving our national team.

Nagbe is overrated. Don't get me wrong he's a nice player, but I don't really see him as a starter.

He does some unique things, (compared to the rest of our pool)
doesn't make him a better player and it certainly doesn't make him a better fit.

all that to say, he should 100% be in our top 23, and I think he's good enough to start for us in meaningful games against any opponent, I just totally reject the notion that he should be penciled into our starting 11.

I agree, it's hard to pencil in a player in the starting 11 when the coach won't give him meaningful minutes in any game.

Wasn't he a sub in both of those matches? Was thumbing more of the recent friendlies but I did forget about his absence in the last two WCQs.

i guess i should say based on his MLS play, i see no reason why he should be penciled in as a starter. i have to assume his performances at usmnt practice corroborate that.

he is talented, no doubt. i also feel like he is totally invisible in most Timbers games I catch, and not the good invisible that pops into games and produces moments of brilliance, just invisible.

just don't think he's a shoe in starter for the nats. certainly not good enough to throw hissy fits over the lack of PT.

And he was right to leave him off. The guy acted like a pussy and whined like a six-year-old who got vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate when he wasn't picked. Landon was definitely a player worthy of making it, skill wise, but he made the team selection about himself rather than about the guys who made it. I will forever look down on him for that. He clearly wasn't a 'team' guy.

I will never feel any remorse for Landon because he chose to take that time off.

And guess what, we did fine without him. Landon missed WCQ's during his sabbatical, Nagbe missed some friendlies. I can 100% see why Jurgy might have resented Donovan for it.

I would love for Nagbe to put forth the effort to try and become a main cog of the team. I think he's a solid player, but turning down call ups won't do him any favors especially when it's well known that Jurgen has a history of telling those players to frick off.

I just don't like Landon Donovan. The guy was/is a great player, but the way he acted after not making the WC team really turned me off of him.

He's the best US player of all time, but I don't have to like him.
