After that, he wouldn't answer any questions about it.

Well I never said the guy sucked. He deserved to be on 30-man and I wouldn't have complained at all had he been selected for the WC roster. I had no problem with the guy until he threw the fit for not making it

But that makes no sense, if Jurgen resented Donovan for the sabbatical, why did he wait until the WC roster to show it?

I remember exactly where I was when I read that Donovan didn't make the WC team. NOT relating it to these other tragedies and events but it's a "where were you when" moment for me.
