I just don’t get how you justify leaving Sargent off and keeping Morris when you consider everything...

There is no justification.

It's not like Sargent played a lot this season, so it would've been a perfect opportunity to have him with the U-20 camp.

Ones getting rewarded for staying home instead of going to Bremen because he got a new puppy and gets minutes in MLS.
One is getting sent home for challenging himself by going to Bremen and getting limited minutes.

I bet you Bremen is happier with the one they got.

It’s just infuriating to have this situation on so many levels. There is no explanation for Sargent not being in Poland or on the 23 man roster. Soto and him could split time or play together and he doesn’t contribute significantly less than Morris

Also the message this sends about challenging and competing is horrible

I don't think anyone is thinking otherwise.

And getting a full preseason with Bremen is still a very good thing for Sargent (and Soto gets a full showcase prior to an upcoming move).

Your bullshite knows no bounds.

What? I want Sargent on the team, but I can still acknowledge that being there on the 1st day of training with Bremen will give him a leg up heading into next season, which I think is more important than playing 1 or two games against Panama or Guyana. I think Jozy will get the vast majority of minutes in the Gold Cup unless he gets hurt. If we knew Lletget would be injured 2 months ago, Sargent might be in Poland but hindsight is a bitch.

This is such an overrated thing that people say every year when a player isn't called up for international duty.

Look at how U-20 players on the US and beyond that are in the World Cup and getting first-team minutes at the club level. They will be just fine. Sargent was robbed of that because Berhalter wanted him in camp for a week and a half.

Our problem or reality is that the oft injured Jozy is still our best pure striker. It's not even real close IMO.

I'm not really sure that I care who is chosen among the other choices available. Now, when the US can produce strikers that can successfully compete and start in the big international leagues it will be different.

Sargent was on the roster until 3 days ago. Injuries happen. Plans change. It sucks, but that's the reality.

Just looking at the US U20s, the only ones getting first team minutes are the MLS/USL players, Weah, and Soto. Most of the domestic players are pretty much guaranteed at least the same amount of minutes when they return to their clubs. The WC final is June 15. All of the foreign based players will get back before preseason starts. Weah was given the choice of possibly making the Gold Cup squad or going to Poland (and I don't think he even knows where he'll play next season yet and Soto is in the same boat).

In my opinion, the most important thing for Sargent is to become a regular for Bremen. I don't know what their transfer plans are, but it looks like they currently have 6 strikers with the first team, 1 is 40, 4 are 31-32, 1 is 29, and Sargent is 19. Some of those may not be there to start preseason, so this is a great opportunity for him to stand out to the manager. But what do I know? Sorry for not wanting to fire everyone and burn everything down. I just think this can still work out the best for everyone, even if it's not what they had hoped.

Hence the "beyond" part, I mean look at what France rolled out against us.

oft injured Jozy

This is my biggest concern. Jozy at his best i.e. healthy, is arguably the most talented true target striker that we've ever seen in a USMNT kit. The problem is that he hasn't been healthy for the full duration of a tournament since the the 2010 World Cup.

2011 Gold Cup: Injured in knockouts
2013 Gold Cup: B-squad, not called in
2014 World Cup: Injured 20 minutes in
2015 Gold Cup: Injured in group stage
2016 Copa: Not called in for injury
2017 Gold Cup: Was called in for knockout stage

Would any of the France U20 players make a 23-man roster for France? I honestly don't know.

Morris is on this squad to play on the wing, Sargent wasn’t going to do that.

So wait...if/when Jozy gets hurt again, can we call up replacement before KO Round?

But Sargent didn't make the 23 for the US.

And yeah, I get it, Lletget, but if Sargent was that low on the totem poll, then he should've been with the U-20's to begin with.

You can make up to six changes to the roster between the group stage and knockout stages. So in theory, Sargent could be called back in for the knockouts.

Also have (Johannes) Eggestein who is 21. Rashica is 22.

Kruse is gone. Johansson is gone.
Pizarro will play limited minutes off the bench.

Think Osako will play a decent amount, and the same with Harnik.

A lot of offensive firepower which is why we scored in almost every league game this past season. I do expect Sargent to compete for the starting job and I’d absolutely love a front line of Sargent, Eggestein, and Rashica.
