Yeah, the idea that he was just some average MLS manager is ridiculous.

He did pretty well with an organization about to collapse and then you got Caleb Porter shitting the bed with new ownership

Calling him average in MLS Is disingenuous at best, if not straight up wrong. He did very well with a pretty shite organization with no real DP.

making the playoffs is average in MLS bc so many teams make it

he had that one great season yes and tactically he is nothing special

but his record speaks for itself, he is average

pretty much

we should have gone all in for Poch

but Gregg's record with both clubs was basically the very definition of average

Morales, Brooks, Pulisic are all going to start tonight because this will be the only match that they are in camp for.

Gregg also said that Dest will start tonight as well.

Not when you compare the difference bwtween the team he had available and the rest of the league.

the talent gap in MLS isn't that huge other than a few teams

come on man. The Crew didn't roll out a USL team

his record is average except that great season

i really hope he improves tactially but at this level a manager should already have their shite together on that front.

That's good news, although I didn't see where he said the others will start, but I can't imagine bringing in Morales all the way over not to play at all. I'm just glad he's finally getting back in.

The first three are just me making an educated guess. But he did confirm that Dest would start.

Let's just use transfermarkt market value for comparison's sake.

2014: 18th highest (finished 3rd in East, lost in conf semis)
2015: 12th highest (finished 2nd in East, lost in MLS final)
2016: 11th highest (finished 9th in East. Higuain missed half the season to injury, traded away Kamara after 1st 9 games)
2017: 20th highest (finished 5th in East, lost in conf finals)
2018: 16th highest (finished 5th in East, lost in conf semis)

I don't think Columbus got any players from New England when they traded away Kamara.

Columbus did not make the playoffs the 2 years prior to his arrival and are currently in 11th in the East.

It’ll be interesting to see how Dest plays, because I’d say his defense is the weakest part of his game, and I imagine we will be defending quite a bit. Hoping he has the opportunity to drive forward, and show of his strengths.

that doesn't change the point the talent gap for most of MLS isn't that big except for few teams

hes not an international quality manager we should be having guide the program. stop going to bat for USSF

Yet he regularly finished above those teams.

literally half the league makes the playoffs and after that all bets are off

so he did that with comprable talent to most the teams he faced. He's not bad and hes not good.

For the sake of the argument, it's odd that the best thing we can come up with regarding Berhalter's hire is "oh, well he never won a championship, but he did finish ahead of some teams more talented than his in MLS"

Does that really move the needle?
