Williams deserves it. Back and the prem and is actually playing. No problem with it.
Call him up during matches that matter.

Going to have to wait a while.

I wouldn’t mind seeing Novakovich
Posted on 11/7/17 at 2:31 pm to StraightCashHomey21
We won’t have a meaningful match for like two years lol

Nah, we have Acosta and Dax for those matches

Wright, Ebobisse, Vazquez, and Novakovich are more deserving right now just on the fact that they are with professional teams and getting minutes.
More deserving than Sargent? I suppose, but it's not either plays very well and for a good team (Novakovich has the numbers, but not the best competition).

More deserving than a 17 year old without a club? Easily.

Ebobisse has done zero to impress me to be honest.

He hasn't done much, but he is getting minutes in MLS.
If Sargent signed a 1 year contract with a USL or NASL team earlier this year and at least was practicing every day with men, sure call him up, but he didn't. I'm strongly against calling up guys that aren't even with a senior team, regardless of what league they are in.

Cameron apparently has a concussion. Otherwise, he may have been called in.

Was thinking at the gym and after listening to some talk about the Toronto/NYRB game this weekend, I thought of some more reasons why you want some vets on a team full of young guys.
1. Something we missed during qualifying was someone that was willing to make a hard challenge/stand up for Pulisic when he would get hit (and he got hit often). I think a guy like Bedoya, Williams, and Sapong will be willing to do that. They may need some protection, especially if Adams plays like he did on Sunday.
2. You need a leader on the field for if/when things turn bad. Someone that could bring everyone together and keep their heads in the game. A guy like Bedoya knows he doesn't really have a future with the team, and he knows that if he wants to stick around a little longer, this is what he needs to bring to the table.
3. You need a benchmark. You already have an idea where these older players rank in the pool. They are the known factor when you are trying to gauge how good some of these kids are. Gives you something tangible to compare them to.

I like the roster. Have to get some guys some experience and this game means exactly jack shite.

I agree! We don't need em.

Same. He was completely ineffective against Houston that was missing nearly it's entire back line. If you want to call in younger attacking players that are getting time, then you look to call in Will Bruin or Christian Ramirez who both have 10+ goals this season. (they're not young, but also not Wondo)

Also ddded some Q&A about roster choice to the OP ( link):
quote:
Could you explain the process you went through in order to put this roster together?
“It was a combination of things in terms of availability, timing, and having an opportunity to look at players that have been on our radar and in some cases haven’t had a chance to get a look. Obviously the European-based players are available with this international break, and the idea was to bring in those players to balance that out with a few Major League Soccer players that are available. We are steering clear of those that are still involved with the playoffs. Beyond that, we’ve also tried to bring in a few veteran players who can lend leadership -- guys that have been involved with the National Team and have played in what I would call higher profile games to give us a little leadership in this camp and for this particular game.”
Could you explain the reasons behind Christian Pulisic and Bobby Wood’s absences from this camp?
“Christian has had a very long year, not only with the National Team but finding his way with Borussia Dortmund. Between his contributions for the National Team and his club, he has probably played more total games than almost anyone in our pool this year, and in doing that Christian has really pushed the limits mentally and physically. With those things in mind, we felt this was an opportunity for Christian to get a break and recharge for the rest of an important campaign with Dortmund.” “Bobby was excited about the opportunity to come into this camp and was on board to be a part of it, but he has had a lingering knee issue that has gotten to the point where it needed to be addressed. He was excited to be a part of this last game of 2017, but like with Christian, we felt it was better for Bobby to get a little extra time to rest and recover.”
Having impressed at both the FIFA U-20 and U-17 World Cups this year, at 17 years old Josh Sargent is part of the group in Portugal. Could you talk about your decision to bring him into camp?
“With this particular roster and the availability of players, it was a great opportunity to bring Josh. He’s in good form coming off his time with the U-17s and is someone who will be able to handle the fitness level we’re looking for in this camp. He’s obviously impressed at both youth World Cups this year and so this camp gives us a chance to give a first look to a young player we think will have a bright future in the National Team program.”

i was going to come on here and say no one over 25 years old needs to be called up, then read pvilleguru three points and agree with mainly #1 but agree to a lesser extent to the other 2 points made.
glad to see some new keeps.
looking forward to seeing youth, glad to not see alot of players that are sadly too familiar

Somewhat related to my point #3, most of the vets we called up have been fringe players with the national team. If the kids want to make the team going forward, these are the guys they need to beat out first.
