Pique just compared the Spanish national team, who just fired its coach a day before the World Cup, to the 1989 Michigan basketball team that won the title despite firing Bill Frieder right before the NCAA tournament.
This was random, but awesome.

Spanish FA president Luis Rubiales has confirmed Julen Lopetegui has been sacked as Spain Coach for ‘unacceptable behaviour’ on joining Real Madrid.
“We have been forced to break our agreement with Julen Lopetegui,” Rubiales told a press conference on Wednesday.
“Lopetegui has been a great Coach. But we cannot accept this behaviour, we only found about his decision (to join Real Madrid) five minutes before the announcement.
“This has been done without our knowledge. I do not feel betrayed. But this is how it must be.
“If someone wants to talk to one of our employees, they must speak to us too. This is a basic requirement. The national team is for the entire nation.

So how is this playing out in the court of public opinion over there? Are they more upset with the coach for accepting the RM job covertly or the federation for firing him bc they were left out of the loop?
I almost get the vibe that fans (and players it seems) would've preferred to keep him through the world cup at least. Is the Spanish FA just salty that he chose RM and a lot more money? Or is what he did actually messed up?

When Spain was picking a new president of the FA he didn't vote for him so him getting sacked has a lot to do with it.
