Serious answer: I have season tickets to Atlanta United

This thread is fantastic in an awful way.

That's strange then. I've played soccer my whole life and been to a lot of MLS games at different venues (never Atlanta though). I guess you and I just have very different impressions of the average MLS fan.

If fraternity dudes are the stereotypical SEC football fans, then the dorky counterculture millennials are the equivalent for MLS. In truth, both are only slices of their respective fanbases. I see plenty of "normal" families going to Atlanta United games just like you have plenty of non-frat types who enjoy CFB.
I think there are some MLS fans who fear the "normalization" of American soccer and that's largely why I'm talking shite about them, but I'm largely being facetious. That said, and in truth, I would like to see a little more balance (which I think is coming with growth regardless of my opinions), just because I enjoy soccer and I don't want a lot of people like me to dismiss it out of hand because they feel like you have to be a registered Democrat to get involved.

It's weird you say all of that, because my idea of a stereotypical section of English Divegrass Fans looks just like the typical American Handegg Fans.
On the other hand, the American Divegrass Crowd looks just like a Baseball Crowd, but with a section of Weirdos who are taking this shite waaaaay to seriously.

yup
that sums it up

MLS has some goofy fans but none of it is as cringe worthy as the fans of some of the lower league teams. Everyone would be better off if they just accepted that American soccer culture is going to be different than Europe and let it develop.
Its okay if the mostly young fanbase skews liberal, nothing shocking there. It's okay if it's more family friendly. It's okay if you don't get stabbed outside the match.

That's definitely part of it. The further along we get, the less cringeworthy it'll be, the more MLS will pick up different swaths of the American public.

Except the stealing of chants and songs from Europe
Hearing the Sounders fans sing a german song translated to the point they even use german sentence structure which is backwards to English is extremely cringe.

And when viable professional soccer leagues were about twenty years old in South America they blatantly ripped off the English down to the team names. Everything is derivative to some degree until you do it so long people forget or don't care.

You mean like Real Salt Lake
but now almost 100 years later South American chants are some of biggest trends in the world. Comparing the forming of leagues almost a 100 years ago to now is stupid.
Esp when those leagues in South American and their teams were started by European immigrants who brought the team names with them.

Where the hell do people get this from? Most MLS fans I've run into were people who played when they were younger. The fan culture can be cringey, but as rivalries and organic storylines develop, the cringe will also go away. We will also soon see generational fans, as that generation that grew up with a professional league their whole lives will soon have kids.
I frankly have never run into any people, even in Seattle or Portland, who would fit into your definition of an "average" MLS fan.

I consider myself to be a pretty hard right wing leaning (hell if I’m being honest, pretty close to the point of ethno-nationalism)and I still attend mls games/ wear soccer jerseys etc. Am I still allowed to go to games in the future? Inquiring minds and such...

I see where you are coming from, but I don't think any one who has followed MLS for a long time cares about normalization.
The one thing that could improve fan support is a show on tactics like Ron Jaworski had where he broke down plays. American tactical knowledge still lags behind Europe, and a show like that with someone like Gary Neville could be very important once our players finally reach the technical levels of Europeans.

Oops, replied to SCH.
Real Salt Lake is stupid, that's pretty much concensus. Not sure why you bring that up. Everything MLS does isn't good.
So I'm supposed to assume here 100 years later in a more globally connected world there will be less copying of chants, etc.? Bad hypothesis.

You are trying to compare apples to oranges of forming clubs and fan culture
You brought up South America when clearly showing why you don’t know why those clubs have similar names to Europe. It wasn’t just blatantly copying.
If the MLS doesn’t want to come off as cringe then it need to work on being original in its own way. Which is why the gay flag thing is not a big issues bc something you really don’t see abroad. If snowflakes have a problem with it then they can frick off.

I guess Pettifogger just closes his eyes whenever he sees fans like that at Atlanta United matches
he only sees the mobilized antifa units
guess he also misses the posts in the Atlanta United thread from noted left-wing pacifist heartbreaktiger

I'm exaggerating on purpose, but you pretending you haven't met weirdo dork MLS fans in Portland or Seattle, which are cities chock full of weirdo dorks, is even more ridiculous.
