I see where you are coming from, but I don't think any one who has followed MLS for a long time cares about normalization.

I'd be surprised if that were true. Don't you want better tv deals, better talent, better international standing for the league? What I'm talking about with "normalization" (becoming more accessible for a broader segment of the public) helps all of those things.

I guess Pettifogger just closes his eyes whenever he sees fans like that at Atlanta United matches

Feel free to ask Caplewood if he waives MAGA flags at AUFC games and report back

Yet you support spurs a club know for displaying its religious affiliation and yes even gay banners at the Lane.

This is hilarious because its true.

Spurs are widely known for their vocal and outward support of the LGBT community.

....and they fly tons of rainbow flags at WHL.

Oh the irony.

Then it's a good thing they don't play there right now.

I'd have thought winston would be happy that the fans were supporting his dream to one day suck Trump's dick

I frankly have never run into any people, even in Seattle or Portland, who would fit into your definition of an "average" MLS fan.

I don't really have a dog in this fight, but if you want to see the personification of his definition of "average MLS fan," just look at any collection of American Outlaws. Especially the ones that attend the women's games.

In Seattle all I've met is tech bros. I got here post-Amazon though. Portland just had a lot of bearded dudes.

You think MLS fans want the league to remain niche sport? That's the opposite of most fans want in my view. There might be some hipsterism with regard to style of play or team history but given who the owners are in the league, it's clear they don't want it to be niche sport either. But developing a fan base takes generations. I think we are still a decade from getting mainstream support.

Went to a Seattle game a few years back with (normal) people who worked at Boeing and felt like every other person was someone they knew from Boeing

No, not really. I think some MLS fans (and Prem fans and others in the US) like that it's a niche sport, but overall their interests are in seeing support grow in the states, and hence, it'll have to reach a broader market.

So it's kind of in conflict, but I suspect most know that it'll eventually be mainstream (to the extent it's not)
