Meh, Jurgen was ridiculous for saying that then and remains to be a shite coach no matter how much some on here are trying to revise history.

That he had us on the right track immediately after he was fired following the shitblasting he took from Costa Rica.
He then later said he felt like he could've led us to the semifinals in Russia if he wasn't fired.

That’s it? That’s what you’re upset about regarding JK?

Wait what?
I'm not upset about that, I thought him saying that was hilarious.
I'm upset that he torpedoed the program because Sunil needed to land his big fish. Jurgen proved before the USMNT, with the USMNT and after the USMNT that he isn't a good coach, just a name.

Torpedo? Please elaborate

It's already been elaborated ad nauseam... but TLDR... we don't get the white bread hire of Gregg if Sunil hadn't thrown frick you money at Jurgen just to watch the program rot from within and do something that was previously unthinkable in the modern era of US Soccer - not qualify for a World Cup.

Except that's what pretty much everyone who played for him has said, whether it was with Bayern, Germany or the USMNT.

I would say this sounds just like Gregg with an accent, except we already experienced some of those Jurgy-isms firsthand.

In the end, South Korea lost to Jordan 2–0 in the semifinals of AFC Asian Cup in Qatar on 7 February 2024. Afterwards, Klinsmann's tactics and work ethic became the focus of scrunity from both the South Korean public and the team. He was criticized by Koreans for smiling even when his team lost. On 16 February, the Korea Football Association announced the immediate termination of Klinsmann's contract, citing "failure to demonstrate leadership" as one of the reasons

Yeah he’s not the same coach as he used to be, but his first cycle was fantastic. And his eccentric German personality always rubbed feathers as to be expected. So what?
But saying he was just a big name, or he drove the program into the ground is a bit much. It’s not like USSF was all ears on his ideas for development from the ground up, surveying the whole system before and after the WC. It became a tenuous relationship by both parties, but completely faulting JK for everything is exaggerated, especially given his coaching ability and results.
It’s ok to be upset for missing out on the WC, but without conflating it towards his coaching, whereas there is real criticism towards Gregggg. He’s not a good coach, never has been, and still doesn’t have the resume to prove otherwise. You can say that Gregg legitimately has wasted 5 or so years. But again, that blame lies with the USSF for giving more chances than warranted.

South Korea, USMNT, Hertha, Bayern, Toronto as Tech Director all ended with Jurgen getting fired for "lack of leadership" and three of those four happened less than a year into his tenure.
When a spade is telling you he's a spade, it's best to assume he's a spade.

Dude... c'mon, he literally is responsible for us not qualifying.
Why you simping for him?
Does the Phillip Lahm book need to be brought up on here by a 101st poster for the 201st time?

Don’t think I need to simp for the guy. What he was able to get out of what he was given is good enough.

By that logic, you should be ecstatic with Gregg considering what he took over.

I'm not saying I'm happy with Gregg. I'm saying if you're happy with Klinsi, then you should be happy with Gregg because it's literally the same trajectory.

Then comparing resumes, you should be over the moon with JK than Gregg

Nah, they both sucked in their own special ways and were clearly in over their heads despite what their egos told them.

Okay then…don’t know what to tell you if you can’t admit that.

This is why I’m generally a believer in only one cycle for national team managers. There are exceptions like Spain, Germany, the USWNT, etc., but generally it rarely works out to keep the same manager for more than 4 years. Things get stale, and players get too comfortable with their spots.
We had some good moments under JK, and were especially good in 2013, but starting in 2015 he started making some baffling tactical decisions and we spiraled in 2016. It was time to move on.
We had a few fleeting good moments under Gregg, and the players seem to like him, but we haven’t shown any progress since Qatar. He’s clearly not the right guy to lead us into the World Cup, and the team needs a shake up.

You want me to admit Jurgen was a good coach?
That seems... odd?
