Have seen many rumors linking Leeds with a move for Alex Smithies from Huddersfield, but I don't think Bates will come off on the required transfer fee the terriers will be expecting.

Plus... he is still young and will likely experience the same growing pains that Kasper Schmeichel went through (which coupled with the pourous and oft injured backline led to 70 conceded last year)

Clichy to Man City for 7mil looks to be a done deal.

@DarrenArsenal1 says Cesc saga could be over today. To Barca for 35mil.

Also word is Sir Alex is confident he can get Nasri.

Arsene has a lot of work to do to restore my faith here during the last month or so of the summer.

here is a Guardian report

quote:

£16m signing Aleksandar Kolarov ... after joining from Lazio

quote:

Gaël Clichy looks set to follow Cesc Fábregas out of Arsenal, with the left-back close to sealing a £7m move to Manchester City.

Realtive unknown on the international scale goes for 16m, starting left back at a top 4 side in arguably the best league in Europe and occasional starter for one of the better national sides in Europe goes for 7m. Great business.

Edit: at the same time it's definitely time for him to go. his progress stopped about 2-3 years ago. hopefully it turns out to be an imploding sabatoge like Kolo Toure was (ie the drug thing).

Is the guardian the only place reporting this? The rumor seems to have legs though, so I wouldn't be surprised. I suppose the job will finally be Gibbs. Clichy's been average for two seasons now, and in truth isn't a big upgrade on Kolorov. I don't think Kolorov is going anywhere either.

The Independent had it also.

There was a Twitter rumor yesterday that Pool was looking at Bridge. At his age he better be cheap.

Bridge's wage demands are insane. 90K a week for a LB who can't use his right foot at all?

I'm going to put it out there now so that when/if he goes elsewhere I don't get accused of being butt hurt- I don't want him and we can do better.

Wayne Bridge was garbage on loan for West Ham. He'd be a small fish in the Championship League at this point in his career.

Has to do with Clichy's contract too, I'd imagine.
