Portugal/Spain - lots of history with South America

Japan/China - that Asian tv market though...

I was going to ask about a link, but I'm guessing you broke this news, Shane.

The organization is dreaming of a tournament that would feature players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Neymar, Suarez, Messi, James Rodriguez and Iniesta

I'm wondering if Messi, Ronaldo, and certainly Iniesta will have retired from international comp by then.

Here's the only thing I could find on it.

LINK

And even if we grant all of the sources involved here as 100% fact, the report still says that this is only a potential option, nothing set in stone like the thread title would lead you to believe.

If there were ever an election for soccer board admin, I'll vote for whoever run their campaign on banning Shane from starting threads. Too often this happens.

Yea makes sense on those counts

But I can't see spain sending an A team. Doubt Portugal would either.

Pretty sure Japan has some history culturally in South America as well.

They always invite guest countries. The US used to get invited regularly but we started sending B teams that got destroyed so they quit. Mexico seems to play in it every time since '93. Japan has been once before.

Huh?

Before last year, we had only played in the tournament three times since 1991. 2007 was a B team, but 1995 and 1993 weren't.

I didn't work it well, I was on my phone. We actually get invited every year but either turn it down or, from what I've read, offer to send a B team and CONMEBOL isn't too keen on that.
