We got younger...

That's all I got, and it wasn't so much an improvement as it was a change.

Like, I get it, it's a World Cup year so none of these friendlies amount to anything but it's a disgrace that we've gone a whole year with a career MLS assistant as a caretaker manager with no real tactical philosophy in these friendlies.

Depends on if you think the GM position is an improvement.

We've had a fairly consistent formation. I think there has been a tactical philosophy, but have we really had the players to successfully implement anything worthwhile? Green has been the only guy we've been able to use as an attacking mid, and everyone knows he's not that good at it. Things like that are going to severely limit what you can do. I don't think many people would have been happy if we just tried to park the bus and grind out scoreless draws.

I still don't think we've come close to fielding a first choice 18.

Regardless of anything US Soccer could do or can do, I still think we're 2 years from being able to be at a level anyone would be happy with.

shite I would take the level that we were at in the previous 2 WC cycles... a round of 16 team.

You going to magically find better players in the prime 24-27 age range?

Well no shite, but it runs deeper than that. This is the lowest the program has been since 1986 despite a much larger talent pool to pull from.

Does It? We just don't have much talent in the 23-28 age group, but we have a lot more talent coming through the younger ranks than we've ever had.

5 years from now, you could likely see the best team we've ever had.

While it's possible, this has been the USSF's mantra forever.

Having a caretaker manager for a whole year doesn't really help progress the younger generation other than caps.

Neither would having a permanent manager. How much would he help their progression when he only sees 23 (and that 23 changes every time) of them for 10 days every other month?

In terms of having a manager implement an actual style of play? It would help a lot.

But don't take my word for it.

Ok, I think we're talking about 2 different things.

We improved our knowledge that we can in fact field a worse team than the one that missed the World Cup. Several times in fact.

I’m trying not to be concerned but there is a large talent vacuum at multiple positions anabolic they don’t seem to have any tactical awareness at times.

The team is dead.

We squandered any upword momentum and popularity we ever had.

Going to take 10-15 years to get anywhere near where we were. And that will take a massively successful overhaul.
