When did they change VAR away from going to look at a screen like an NFL challenge?

They still go to the screen to review penalties/possible red cards. But for Offside and goals across the line, they use the hawkeye tech with a fourth official.

I think a couple of times it’s happened off screen in the WC while in the premier league you are watching the ref watch the screen at home.
Not sure if that’s what you are talking about. But var always had the go to the screen option, they just didn’t really have the balls to use it in the very beginning. But the Refs should want the right call, not be too caught up in, oh it’s going to show I made the wrong call.
