BR IT jobs for the most part just pay shite.
We post a help desk ad, and CIS PhD candidates apply...That is the issue..BR companies don't have to pay whatever you think you are worth because there is always someone better than you who will work for less

Just looking through a list of companies in Raleigh that begin with I...Slow news day..

Whatever you do, stay away from working for the state unless you get into an agency that generates its own funding (like Treasurer's office, LASERS, etc), like job hopping every few years and plan to stay long enough to retire.
I enjoy the hell out of my job, but I could easily be making more at a private company (I have a standing offer at one healthcare company that would net me more $$/year but I'm middle-aged and retirement is more important). The problem with working for many of the state agencies is that the "challenge" comes from being like the Professor on Gilligan's Island in that you are having to pull together odds and ends of various things just to "make do" because so many in management don't understand that IT is an ongoing cost instead of a series of one-time payments.

Ok... Well, I'm sure if a government agency for some reason wanted to give us a lot of money to set up a spamming system, we'd consider it.

Followed by an E and an M? If you follow IT in BR that's an easy one. Lost several good people in that move.

Sounds like it, but I don't work in IT. Won't say what department though, since I think I've identified myself enough already.
If you're curious, you can e-mail me at ILikeLSUToo at gmail.

The company that just acquired us looked at IEM..They wanted a foothold in the US

Oh, that happens fairly often as far as I know, but the department I work in would have to know about any pending mergers or acquisitions, so I doubt anything would come of it. We've been self-sustaining/zero debt for quite a long time.
Edit: is your parent company based out of Canada?
