you will need proper cooling for a "closet." Good luck with that. That can have all sorts of ramifications if not done properly and it is long odds to find a residential person that can do that.

This needs repeating.

quote:

Inside the closet, I want to hide my fiber box, a 24 or 32-port Ubiquiti PoE switch (leaning Ubiquiti), an A/V receiver, an Xbox, and a Blu-ray player. I would prefer to have everything seated right in a networking rack if possible.

The fiber box isn't going to be a problem, but that switch can put out some heat over time, especially if it's closed up in a literal closet. If he's going to eventually add a NAS, maybe run a Plex server, etc. then that's going increase the heat and thus the need for good ventilation. The best option is to over-plan on ventilation to future-proof yourself as much as possible.

Along with that, have the power receptacle(s) placed higher than normal and house the UPC in the rack so that everything is off the floor (in case of flooding/water line breaks, etc).

Some of y'all are way too dramatic. This is just a damn home install for gods sake with relatively cheap hardware. And any important NAS data should be backed up to the cloud anyway, so losing that wont be a big deal
