I can't imagine the iwatch replacing the garmin for me.

I'm with you on this. My concern would be the durability of the iwatch that's not in a case and you're sweating all over it. Though, I can't imagine the iwatch replacing the garmin for me.
the fitbit is the only wearable health tracking I need. It is great, has some issues yes, but it is everything I need. The only thing an iWatch could do that my fitbit can't do is maybe track my heart beat. For someone who may want to start tracking their health the iWatch may be good, but if that is your only reason for getting an watch you will probably be able to get a cheeper tracker that does just as good of a job as an iWatch could do.
Another thing I don't like about a smart watch is that, it sticks out when you wear it. I don't want something that will buzz or light up every time I get a text or email. I really don't need to respond on the spot every time I get a message.

another question. When iOS8 is released how many GB will I need on my phone to upgrade? I know that it is next to impossible to know exactly but what was it in the past. I think I have 1.5GB available on my iPhone and 1GB on my iPad. I can delete photos still on both which is about 500MB. Hopefully that is enough.

My guess is on day one of iOS those will integrate into one. (with the exception of C25K
I wouldn't hold your breath. It's up to the developers to integrate, and even though they've had the betas all summer, it seems that every year when the new iOS comes out the big developers act like they had no idea it was coming. I would be shocked if Nike+ wasn't ready day 1 though (Tim Cook is on the Nike Board)

it would be nice if the iwatch could offer GPS tracking (like the garmin watches do) while also monitoring heart rate and other vitals while also playing music. that one device would replace my typical garmin/shuffle combination - if they pull that off, I'll buy it for exercising alone. The every day use would just be gravy.

A pair of headphones, and an iPhone can do most of this. Just not the heart rate part.
There are plenty of apps that can track your heart rate not just in real time.

i have no plans to buy an iwatch, but i am curious about it
GPS watches for golf use have become pretty popular the last few years
i wonder if apps for this can be integrated into the watch to replace these golf watches
i can't see why not

Pretty sure they have apps for that already. Keep your phone on your bag. Check distance, wind, elevation, etc.

if I were to get it for exercise there would have to be something that an iPhone app can't do that is worth the few hundred dollar price tag that will probably be on it. There are very few if any things that would do that for me.

would be awesome

-not running with a phone
-accurate gps (garmin uses over 20 satellites, your phone has to use ping times to nearest towers)
-accurate health data: heart rate, body temp, etc.

Other than pace, distance, and heart rate I just can't think of any other metrics I need from a GPS watch. I have a 220 and have never felt the need for more data.

I normally do.

there will likely be cheeper ways to do this than what this will likely be.

this will be big if they do but how would they do it?

But it's just a GPS watch, right?
Don't get me wrong. I've said already that I love my garmin 410. But if the iWatch can do all of that on top of other uses, it might be worth it.

I have never liked running with a big arse phone strapped on my arm. Whether I'm doing speedwork, an easy run or a sunday long run, I have zero interest in lugging a phone around. the less I have on me, the better. that's why an iwatch that can do it all is so appealing.

My guess is apple sells it as a phone on your wrist, plus advance exercise tracking.

For serious runners they better make significant GPS improvements over what the iPhone currently does. They could probably get away with poor GPS if they're selling to the masses who don't need precision.
Personally, a morning run is a chance to escape my phone and other electronics, but I could see how it would be appealing if you need to have it with you or like to listen to music.

I'm pretty sure this is wrong. Smartphones have GPS chips that get location from the satellites. They use cell tower triangulation as a fall back.

GPS is in almost all exercise tracking devices aren't they?
I understand not carrying a phone around, I'm trying to explain why I probably won't get it.
I think I'm going to wait 2 hours and see what happens instead of trying to speculate. See you around 12:30
