I have been comparing all the streaming services and directv's looks the best. Especially if you rent the gemini box. I am considering leaving Cox, because I can't stand the price increase. It went up twice in the same month. I'm around 215 for TV only and 4 boxes that aren't even unlimited.

Directv's streaming has so many cool things like multiview and the ability to stream unlimited at home and up to 3 devices on the road. You could even take the gemini with you and use it if you really wanted to. They also seem to offer more channels than the other services. They also have unlimited DVR which is really nice. I am sure the other streaming services have this, but Cox does not. I can only record 2 things at once.

The remote control being more like a traditional cable remote really separates them from the other streaming services. The cool thing about directv's services is you can lock in the price for 2 years, but cancel any time without a penalty. After the first three months a certain promotion may come off, but not the other promotion. And you have to remember to cancel any of the free 3 month trials of any additional channels if you don't get the top tier package.

I don't deny that DTV is pretty cool. However you have to pay for the box for each TV in the home. I have AppleTVs or Rokus on the five TV's used in my house. My YTTV sub covers all of those. Granted I did have to buy those streaming boxes but do not pay monthly for their use.

ETA: I forgot about the TV in the other guest room. So a total of five in my house.

I still have it. Here's the thing: no matter what anyone says about the "ease" of streaming, the fact remains that switching between programs on different services is MUCH worse than back and forth on DirecTV (instantaneous).

In 12 years of having it, I can count on one hand the number of times the service went out due to weather.

Have had Directv satellite for 30 years. Switched to Directv streaming yesterday. The satellite service remains active for 14 days while I test out the streaming version. If I don’t like my new service, I can stop the migration process and go back to satellite.

So far, one thing I like about streaming is that you can reference live channels by their satellite number. SEC Network is 611 for streaming and satellite.

I have fiber internet and the recent ice storm knocked it off for about a week 5 days. The reason had to do with the switching station losing power. My Dad still has satellite at his house, but his dish itself froze and couldn’t get any channels until the ice melted. He has ATT hotspot box that worked just fine, so I hot spotted from my phone to the TV. It worked meh, but I thought fiber being burried to your house wasn’t supposed to go out. But it sure as hell did. We used to have internet via cable and went out all the time as it was attached to poles, but remarkably that service (I still have that at my office) never went down.

I’m thinking about ditching this unreliable fiber bullshite and just get an ATT or TMobile hotspot box with unlimited. It’s way cheaper. And the cell towers rarely go down in a storm as the compounds have backup generators.

We just made the switch from cox to DirectV streaming. Using the Gemini remote and box is simply awesome. Way better than using your TV remote and going thru the app. I played around with it both ways and there is no comparison, the box is the way, It's $10 a box...and when I say box its like a roku that connects with an hdmi, there is no physical box like COX.. Its a little more expensive than You tube but using both, i really like the remote and the features and how it goes right to DirectTV much like cable did. $129/month with 2 gemini's, includes Disney/Hulu/ESPN unlimited.
