Any recs for a first timer
Don't skip lessons. The better you are, the more fun it will be, and there's no quicker way to learn. I did 3 days of lessons on my first trip.

Extra points for nice lodging and ease to travel to
Park City and Deer Valley are some of the best places for this. You can uber from SLC. The ski patrol strike at park city could complicate this though. It's a bit of a shite show.
The colorado resorts aren't as easy to access. I enjoyed going to Beaver Creek on my first trip but it does take half a day to shuttle from Denver.
I've heard Heavenly can be pretty easy to get to from Reno but I've never been.

What days/dates do yall typically try to shoot for?
Any time Jan-Mar should be good. Avoid holidays if possible.

Are ski-in/out joints worth it?
For me it's non-negotiable. Logistics can get messy very quickly on a powder day if you aren't ski in/out. I spent like 5 hours in traffic one day a few seasons ago and swore off non-ski in/out lodging ever since.

You can fly into Hayden,CO and you are 30 min from Steamboat. You can fly into Gunnison, CO and you are 30 min from Crested Butte. Both have plenty of options for dinner/night life.
I think Steamboat is more expensive lift tickets, etc.

As said take a lesson, or 2. Get some really nice waterproof gloves.

Funny you said these 2, that's pretty much the ones that seemed ideal. Girl I'm going with has done CB before and loved it

Go to CB. Much more remote and less crowded. I’ve found the lodging is also cheaper there.
Ski in/out traffic also isn’t really an issue at Steamboat or CB. Stay anywhere along the town bus routes to easily get it to the mountain if you’re looking to save a few bucks.
Downtown steamboat to the mountain is like 10 minutes. Same for CB from town to the mountain. If you stay on the mountain, take the bus down to the town for dinner/night life.
Gravity Haus on the mountain at steamboat is solid and grand lodge crested butte is also great. I’ve stayed at both

I've done CB twice before and enjoyed it. I'm more a fan of staying at the mountain and shuttling to town as needed. Also, if you're trying to get romantic with your travel partner, I've done this snow-shoe yurt dinner before and it was a lot of fun. They have a few open spots left for march:

Does anyone have any info on how the Park City strike is going? Going for Mardi Gras and starting to get a little anxious.
Couldn't find much in the news...

The only thing about flying into and out these two airports is that they’re crammed with more flights than they were made for during ski season, so they’re prone to delays if you’re making connections.

Any recs on gear? For goggles I'm looking at the Oakley Line Miner Pros and the Anon M5. These seem to get a lot of of love

Goggles- I've got smith goggles and really like them. They're magnetic and interchangeable depending on low light (yellow/pink) or bright (purple/blue).
Ski pants- bibs if you're boarding to not get snow up your arse. Pants are find for skiing, anything waterproof.
Jacket- found a great Columbia ski jacket at an outlet in Florida years ago for $125. Pockets near your hand are great for putting your pass in and waving your jacket at the gates. I like the jacket because I can fit a huge water bottle in there.
Facemask/gaiter- I usually ski with one. Found a nice one that covers head, ears and can move up and down over nose/mouth when desired
Helmet- a must. Probably around $100, make sure your goggles can fit around the strap/hook in the back and be centered

Respectfully, you don’t need $250-$300 goggles since you’re new. You have to build an entire kit and that’s expensive. I’d start cheap then upgrade a piece or two of gear each year if you find yourself going a ton each year. The last thing you want to do is a spend $1000-$1500 on clothing to end up not liking it.
Smith squad goggles + smith holt helmet will run you about $200 total.
Gloves - Kinco. Can’t beat them for the price and I wear these daily over my $200 mittens.
Definitely get a basic buff to start or a balaclava. I love the ones from Skida.
Take Cusetigers advice on the pants/jacket 100%.

Thank you General Hog. Budget is not an issue and I typically like the "Buy Once Cry Once" approach as opposed to buying and then upgrading later. I'd like to make these trips once or twice yearly, so I want to invest in the good stuff from jump street. Will look into Skida and Kinco.
