A place to discuss and trade stories on desert wanderings

Anyone else here into getting into the backcountry in the Deserts of the Colorado Plateau?

Every year my buddies and I do a big SE Utah /SW Colorado Desert Trip. Usually go somewhere where there is a ton of anasazi ruins and petrloglyphs.

Usually 3 days in the backcountry and then a day of driving to Cortez CO to catch the UGA Game.

Cedar Mesa/ Bears Ears NM is my favorite spot. Been wanting to check out Needles District of Canyonlands/ Indian Creek too

Cedar Mesa is arguably the most magical spot in Utah (non ski area) but really loving the San Rafael Swell, Capitol Reef, and Escalante too

Do some of your buddies on this trip happen to be from central MS? I know of a group here that does this exact thing.

Damn that sounds like fun. I haven't been to that area since a family rv trip in 91.

Calf Creek Falls is just south of there and an excellent hike where people swim in the pool at the base of the falls. I really like a road trip in that area.
