Like Ron said, Hotels.com was the only 3rd party program worth a shite and they killed it this summer. Unless you can get a flight+hotel bundle that's a HUGE savings, just book direct. You can occasionally get a travel package from TravelZoo or similar site that fits your exact needs. And use booking.com or Expedia. Not worth using a shitty website and ruining a vacation. 99% of the time the answer is book direct, especially as you'll often be able to get a price match.

Agree... same here re Expedia... all it takes is one time.

When you are traveling, something going wrong can screw up the whole trip. Book direct unless there is a deal you just cannot resist ... AND if things go back, it isn't going to risk ruining your whole trip.
In the past, when Priceline was doing bidding for rooms, booked those successfully without issues. So, I tend to trust them more than others.
Also, some hotel accounts provide more points if you book direct, or you may not get them booking through another source.

Thanks, wife wants to book direct but I'm looking to save $ if possible. She is worried about the fine print about flights and rooms.
Flights should always be direct. You could really get screwed with cancellations, etc and not being able to talk to the airlines directly.
Hotels...well I've had great deals from Priceline and Hotwire, but you have to really know the areas, do a pretty good bit of research, and be ok with getting either a king or 2 twins, because you usually don't get to choose. There are areas of San Antonio that I used to always do those sites. If you do a lot of research, you can sometimes figure out the exact hotel. Never, ever go below 3 star on those sites.

I used a travel agent for years but now I book everything directly. Screw booking sites

I’ve never used 3rd party airfare aggregator. I check hotel and airfare on sites like Kayak, but always book directly, opting for 100% refundable. This has been essential for changing plans or price drops.

Google Travel for your search, and then direct to book.
