Heading to Destin the week after the 4th and was last minute given an extra day off work so we decided to knock most of the drive out a day earlier. Was looking to head out after work on Monday the 5th and booked a room in Spanish fort at a Courtyard. Anyone have any experience in this area ? Is it a decent /safe area ?

Perfectly safe and convenient to the interstate. Plenty of chain restaurants close along with some good local spots as well.

Thanks. I thought I remembered that being a nice area but I wasn’t sure.

That whole area is nice, will have no issues as stated above.

Crazy but we are doing the exact same thing, leaving after work on the 5th, but heading to Disney for a few days and then driving back to Destin on the 9th. Spanish Fort/Daphne has plenty of hotels, restaurants are nearby but nothing too fancy, lots of shopping as there is an outdoor shopping center in SF and a larger one in Daphne. As far as I know it is very safe. My brother lived there for years and his ex still does. They never mentioned any concern about crime or the wrong people moving in. Btw, you must be an OT baller staying at the Courtyard. We are looking at a Holiday Inn. lol Cheers brother.

LOL. Priceline is the best. Got into the Hampton near Disney Springs for $223 for 3 nights on Priceline. Use it enough and the prices get even lower.

I agree. I’ve pretty much used them exclusively for the last 10 years or so and I book a BUNCH of hotels a year between all of our trips and the kids sports. I’m not far from being a VIP PLATINUM member

We did the same last weekend. It worked out great. DO use the Waze app to navigate Mobile and the tunnel area. It will get you through on the fastest route at the time. Resist the Buccee's urge. You will lose 45 minutes there.

I've stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn there several times. Area is just fine.
The Original Oyster House on 98 headed back towards Mobile is a great place to eat. Met the proprietor the last time I was in town; he's a veteran New York City restaurant guy who told some of the best mob stories I've ever heard. The place wasn't crowded and we were buying him shots to get him to tell his stories.

Had the one in gulf shores/ orange beach area. I thought it was pretty good but it’s been a long time ago.
