Area around Sea-Tac airport safe at night?

Just curious....American Airlines changed my flight and I'm getting to Seattle at 1AM now (3 hours later than originally planned). Is the area around the airport pretty safe? I'll have to rely on uber/taxi.

Few things here. First, with a schedule change that big, you're eligible to change your flights for free on AA. Find the flights you want and call in. What date and city are you starting from? I can look up some better options for you.
Second, the area off International Blvd is fine. There's a ton of hotels super close to the airport. The better question is where are you headed the next day? Honestly might be easier to take an uber/cab and get closer to your destination with little traffic at 1am than deal with 405 or 5 the next morning.

Driving to Vancouver, part of a road trip that will finish up back in Seattle. The whole idea was to get in and spend the night at the hotel before picking up the rental and heading out to Vancouver the next morning. The 1AM arrival isn't a huge deal in terms of disrupting those logistics, just more of an annoyance as an early morning riser.

Good to know. I figure it'll be a ghost town at 1am, but I wasn't sure.

Nice, enjoy your canadian trip
I'd still switch the flights to not get in at 1am, AA has a ton of flights to SEA that get in around 7-11pm. You can do it for free too with the schedule change... What date is this trip and what city are you starting in? I bet I can find you a better option (knuckles cracking). These schedule changes will automatically put you on a new flight 3 hours later even if the old flight is 1 minute earlier.

Seatac is the busiest late night airport I've ever been to. My experience is anecdotal at best but that seems to be the norm, we got in late at like 11pm and I guess due to all the international flights to asia and the red eyes the departures/ security was absolutely slammed between 11-midnight. It was nuts.
Then, the traffic arriving and leaving the airport was insane.
Most even large airports are pretty much dead that time of night. I'm talking it was like Atlanta on a Friday afternoon busy at like.
I'm sure the hotels around Seatac are fine, but the bigger surrounding area is not the best fwiw.

I appreciate the offer, but I'm 100% stuck with this option. This is the only flight I could take with AA because of my connection through CLT. All the other flights leave too early (715PM or earlier). It is cool, I can get a nice overpriced meal drinks in CLT and sleep nicely on the plane. Late night flying is less stressful.

Your experience is normal. Most flights from the east coast, mid atlantic, and west coast land between I'd say 7-11pm so the arrivals area is usually a mess. Always suggest the departures area for pickups in that timeframe. However, after that last batch of flights comes in and leaves it turns dead quiet around midnight so 1am for the OP should be just a piece of cake. I've had a few redeyes where it's felt like I was the only person in the airport at midnight.
On the other hand, the departures area is packed with people between 5-8am. SEA does have a spot saver so you can save a 15 minute timeslot to go through TSA. Would recommend to anyone flying out of there early morning. I will say I never had issues with TSA precheck and using checkpoint 1 which is only precheck.

No connections through DFW, PHX, ORD, PHL, LAX out of your originating airport? You can change your connection airport with these schedule changes (300 mile rule), you're not stuck with one airport unless it's a small city that only flies to CLT

Only if I want to risk a 40 minute connection through ORD (with checked luggage)

That's the area where the Green River killer did his thing. He's currently in prison, so you don't have to worry about him.
But you know the PNW is known for creating serial killers.
