Pendry has some bikes available so would like to hop on some bikes and explore some neighborhoods from the hotel if you have any suggestions.
Awesome! Highly-recommend riding Lakefront Trail to some of the north side neighborhoods lining the lake, (i.e. Lincoln Park, Lake View, Uptown, and Edgewater). Quite a few popular beaches along the Trail, including Oak Street, North Ave, Montrose, and Foster. Lake View and Lincoln Park border one another and have some of the best walking in the city - a lot of quiet, tree-lined streets with beautiful homes.
If you're in Lincoln Park, check out the Zoo and grab a drink on the rooftop of the J. Parker. Fantastic skyline view, but it's not my favorite. Best is The Up Room in The Robey - Take Blue Line from Clark/Lake to Damen in Wicker Park. A lot of bars and vintage / thrifting shops throughout Wicker, too. From there, you can walk or take the train a couple stops north to California in Logan Square. In my opinion, second-best restaurant neighborhood in Chicago, and best cocktail bar neighborhood.

When I visited Chicago I stayed in the Pilsen and took the L into downtown every day. Walked around the city, took an Uber to Cubs game. It was great the entire time.
Don't live scared.

Always love Estereo for drinks on a nice summer day... The one in West Loop is okay, but doesn't have the vibe of Logan...

My advice for weekend visitors, on this board and in my personal life, has always been to explore Chicago's neighborhoods
I hope this isn’t too off topic, but I had a fishing trip fall through so my son (11) and I made a spur of the moment decision to visit Chicago to take in a Sox game, brewers game, and a Cubs game. It will be a quick trip primarily to watch a few games, but I’m willing to take all advice for first time visitors to the city. I’ve done zero research since we decide this a couple of hours ago, but I know we have some great, knowledgeable posters here so this is my first stop. I’ve got my plane tickets (land 10:30 am 8/14 and depart 5:20 8/17), game tickets (Sox 8/14, Brewers 8/15, Cubs 8/16), and that’s it.
Any suggestions for an area to stay in since this trip will be primarily about baseball and not so much seeing as many sights? Two of the games we are going to are day games so this will limit time for sightseeing. Normally I wouldn’t rent a car for a trip like this, but since I’ll be going to Milwaukee for the brewers game I feel like I would need one for at least that one day. I know there is a train that runs between Chicago and Milwaukee, but I feel the car give me flexibility to see other thins and not be tied down to the train schedule. That being said, would there be any advantage to spending the night in Milwaukee after the game on Thursday (mid-day game) before coming back to Chicago for the Cubs game on Friday (also a mid-day game)?
Also, is the best way to get from ohare to downtown the blue line, or Uber/taxi? Assuming take the red line from downtown to Wrigley (1:00 game) and Sox (7:00 game) vs trying to Uber?

I'll re-visit entirety of your post later today or tomorrow but since you're pressed on time for a hotel, don't complicate yourself - find one in The Loop or River North. Greatest concentration of hotels across every price range.

If you plan to see anything on the way to Milwaukee, car makes sense. Otherwise, don't rent. You don't need one in either city. Hiawatha (Amtrak) goes between both, at a cheap price ($25 one-way) and only 90 minutes.
ETA:
Guess I don't have much to add, but I'll reiterate both of the above:
- River North and The Loop are loaded with hotels across all price ranges. Red Line goes between Wrigley and Guaranteed Rate, but you can also take the Brown Line pretty close to Wrigleyville (get off at Belmont) if you want to walk north on Clark.
- Unless you're planning on stopping between Chicago and MKE, no need to rent. Take the Hiawatha between the two.

Volare is an Italian restaurant my wife and I visit on every trip to Chicago. One night we were there Jim McMahon was sitting at the table next to us. Next thing we know he’s sitting with us for about 15 minutes.

This thread has me talking to my wife about going back. Chicago had become our favorite city to visit but have not been in about 3 years. I want to get back to a couple of long weekends a year.

Thanks, booked a room on Monroe between Dearborn and State. Plan to take the blueline from O'hare, redline to the games, and Amtrack (hiawatha there and borealis back) to Milwaukee. Thanks again.

Have told this board a number of times, but Chicago is a neighborhood-centric city. The Loop has less than 1.5% of the city's population. In other words, it's a very 9-5 and can seem "eerie" (for lack of a better term) before and after work. That said, you'll see more weekend visitors during the day walking between Millennium Park and Mag Mile. Just wanted to give you a heads up on the location, in general, but you're also a quick walk to the Monroe Red Line station for games at Wrigley and Guaranteed Rate. Don't confuse that with the Monroe Blue Line station, which will take you to/from ORD.

Good call. Totally forgot about the Borealis, honestly. Just started running service a couple months ago, but it's an extension of the Hiawatha that goes up to the Twin Cities.
