Delta Skymiles Booking Advice

I've saved up a lot of skymiles over the past few years and have never redeemed any. I was thinking of using them next summer to take the family on a trip from Louisiana up to Maine. My calendar is pretty open if I could find the best deals as far as days and airports to fly to/from. Anyone have advice on the best way to find deals when booking? TIA

Delta has a calendar feature for redeeming miles that will show you the cheapest/lowest mileage dates to fly. It pops up once you start browsing random dates, may show as a flexible travel option

Yep, the calendar feature helps a lot. I've got a lot of Delta miles too, and was hoping to use them for a big overseas trip some day for something like Delta One to Australia. But award levels for something like that are absurd, and I've found it a lot better use of miles to stick with domestic economy. The miles have been really useful to me for "maybe" trips since they can be easily refunded, and my work travel is unpredictable - often changed or suddenly needed.

I had close to 150k SkyMiles but never could find anything international to use for so I started using them to upgrade to first on domestic travel

Google flights, sort airlines by sky team (delta points cover this) and look at the price calendar

They call them SkyPesos for a reason.
Short, domestic flights are your best bet if you don't want to get hosed.
