Thanks to all for the suggestions. Yes we are more interested in doing the hotel thing rather than beachfront. We do the beachfront thing every year in other locations and we are just looking to get away from the crowds even if it means driving to a public beach and trekking a boardwalk to get to the beach.

We stayed at the Henderson inn a couple of times many years ago and I'm really not interested in spending $600 per night for this trip.

We actually pushed back the trip leaving Saturday instead of today due to the rain that passed through last night and is hitting Destin today.

We'll likely roll up to a public beach tomorrow and worry about locating a hotel while on the beach tomorrow.

Deer lake park sounds interesting.

Also sometime mentioned alcohol and the public beach being a problem???? Is that something I should consider.... Because alcohol is definitely in the plans

Never been a problem for us at Deer Lake park. It may technically be the rule, but there is really nobody there once you get to the gulf you have the beach to yourself, I would think the rangers would have better things to do.

Grayton Beach is a hidden gem.

Didn’t think I’d ever see the day where anywhere on 30a is considered a hidden gem, though Grayton is usually less crowded than other area. At least until they all start piling into Red Bar.

My gf’s family has a house in the Cassine Gardens development in Seagrove and I like that area. There are townhouses there and most of them are far enough off the main road that they’re quiet. Public beach access is right across the street.

As long as it isn’t a bunch of college kids funneling beer and being obnoxious they will typically leave you alone. Just make sure no glass and I would suggest you have a full koozie over any can. Also make sure you aren’t just throwing empties on the sand and you should be fine.
