Bringing wife, 12-6 year old boys and 1 year old. 1 day enough for both parks Disneyland? Should we go to Universal studios?
What else should we do tourist attractions? Also is Palm Springs/ Joshua Tree worth the drive? Thanks

From what I understand, it's possible but not probable.

I work for a company in that area, and one of my coworkers is a season passholder. Here's the basic gist of what he told me for my planning to go to Disneyland after an upcoming work trip:

I am looking at having Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mostly free with a flight out on Monday. According to him, "Disneyland" is the far better park, so it is busier on the weekends. He said:

I would recommend Disneyland on Friday, and California Adventure Saturday or Sunday. Disneyland is generally busier, so a weekday would be super helpful

I asked him if we could do both parks in one day, and we basically came to the conclusion that if we skipped every ride that is also at Disney World and just did the Disneyland-only areas/rides, AND purchased Genie+, that it MIGHT be possible. I came away from the conversation thinking he was very doubtful about that being likely.

You should take a look at the website for Universal Hollywood. When I looked, there might have been 1 or 2 rides that aren't also in Orlando. If you've never been to Universal Orlando and don't intend to go, then that might not be a big deal for you. For us, it clearly wasn't worth the price of admission or wasting a day when we could be doing something else.

That was the conclusion we came to also. Seems like a good plan.

You definitely won't be able to do everything at both parks with just one day. Disneyland Park itself has more attractions than the Magic Kingdom in FL. Two days you could probably get most of what you want done at least once.

In almost every instance, the Disneyland versions are better IMO.

Knott's Berry Farm - This is a really nice classic theme park. I took my daughter last Mardi Gras and we did 2 days at Disneyland, 1 at Knott's and 1 at Universal. She was 9 at the time and loved all of the parks. I think 2 days at Disneyland is the way to go. Too much to cram into 1 day.

Super Nintendo World opens next month at Universal. This will come to Orlando but will still be some time. Universal was worth it for the backlot tour. But it is a bit of a drive from Anaheim.

Knott's is not far from Disneyland.

We stayed at the new Westin right across from Disneyland. Very nice hotel.
