Don’t fly American out of BTR

Don’t be dumb enough to do it. They give zero fricks about their customers.
Delays and missed connections are a hallmark of it. Don’t be dumb enough to make the same mistake I’ve made 3 times now.
It’s not worth the free miles to delayville.

Been there, done that
. Let me guess, you were delayed out of BTR waiting for your flight to Dallas (delays due to thunderstorms), proceeded to land on the furthest runway once at DFW, taxied for about 20-25 minutes only to arrive at one of the E gates while your connection left from A, B, C, or D? Same situation could be said for the BTR-Charlotte flights where it takes 20 minutes of taxiing upon landing before getting to the furthest possible E gate from everything in Charlotte. Meanwhile you arrive just in time to see your plane leaving from the gate.
They're all contract workers at BTR so you're not getting actually American employees that can help in irregular operations (IRROPS) like you would at MSY. I think they are trained on a different system than the regular AA employees. I've run into this at Vail (EGE) before where the 1 or 2 actual AA employees were able to add me to the standdby list as compared to the contrast worker who said I was #17 on a list (lies).

No, it was fault of the airlines.
Maintenance issue on a flight sitting since last night. No on site maintenance. Had to wait on him.
Same sentiment. I made it to the gate before door closed. Wife had to wait for checked bag at the gate. She was three gates away and shut the door on us. I get it, but frick you. You made us late.
The fact that you nailed it tells me this is quite common. Nail in the coffin for American.

Hate American. Twice they screwed me on my connection home and I had to sleep in a Dallas hotel instead of at home. The second time I even had to argue with them to get them to pay for the hotel.
Frick that airline.
Frick that airline.

I see others already beat me to it, but it should just say "Don't fly American". I can't say I recall a single positive experience with that disaster of an airline.

This is good to know but unfortunately I’ve had very similar experiences with United recently. Starting to wonder if it’s worth flying any airline other than Southwest. I’ve also raised my driving threshold from 8 hours to about 12 hours for vacations. Just tired of dealing with the headaches of flying.

American is terrible. I've had them close the doors on me early (~13 min prior to departure despite policy saying 10 min) despite the flight being the last flight to a 1 gate regional Airport (no one had a connection to make). I've also been on hold for way too long. About 40% of my flights with them incur some sort of delay.

American was the only airline who gave me a multi-day runaround about refunding my tickets during the 2016 flood when I was in an area that got multiple feet of water. They didn't believe a flood happened
That said, I'm flying American in a couple weeks but it is a direct flight to Charlotte where I'll be getting off and driving.. so not a huge deal. More concerned about the rental car company not having a car for me.

That happened to my daughter at BTR but with Delta - maybe it’s just the airport

Many years ago I was on a NW Airlink Saab 340 that had a maintenance issue discovered after boarding the plane. After deboardimg, we waited for approximately an hour on a mechanic who flew himself down alone from the maintenance base in a Citation 550. He parked the jet next to the Saab and got out with his tool kit wearing a golf shirt and shorts. He fixed the issue within 20 minutes closed the door and fired up the Citation. We boarded again and left soon after him.
I remember thinking that was the coolest save ever.

I've never had an issue with American from BTR.
