Coming from Baton Rouge. First time driving in weather that cold. Do they salt the roads there? Looks like it’s suppose to be freezing temps Thursday, Friday and Saturday. Is the city gonna be mostly closed down. This Cajun boy isn’t use to single digit weather

Yes, of course they do. Main roads and highways will always be maintained.

10 Day Forecast.

Unless it's forecasted to be a blizzard, I wouldn't worry about it too much. We just went over to NC two weeks ago. Passing through the mountains in higher elevations, we had snow. They were salting the roads (actually it's more of a brine). Drove slower. A little slippery, but we were fine.

Your forecast doesn't look that bad. Gets higher during the day so you can expect whatever accumulation is there to melt. Just looking at that, I wouldn't be that concerned and I worry about that kind of weather a lot if I'm thinking about driving.

One reminder: 4WD/AWD (if you have it) helps you in snow, not on ice. Some people feel emboldened sometimes with 4WD/AWD. Just drive slower if you need to. Tap, not slam on brakes, give yourself more space.

We're going on 2/11-2/14. The high is suppose to be like 28 on friday and 25 is the high on saturday. Thank you for the advice though. My wide is all nervous so I told her i would ask around on driving in it.

Yes but Mississippi and Alabama don't from my understanding. You can be forced to exit the interstate for certain conditions.

Understand. There's always that risk in the South, particularly in States that don't consistently deal with subfreezing weather. Temperature isn't as important as the precipitation. If it's 25 but not forecasted rain, wintry mix, snow etc., the main roads would always be fine generally. Possibly stay off side roads. Slow down some around bridges.

But I worry about weather too. Guess what I'd do is be flexible with your plans, accommodations etc. if you can. Watch the weather. Use local webcams to see what it's like there! Take major highways.

It gets cold as 'ish here in Tennessee. Rarely that worried about weather and travel. Only maybe during a blizzard coming through where initially road conditions aren't great and they haven't caught up with it yet.

Family went one year and it snowed when we got up there. They closed the road north out of gatlingburg but other than that it wasn’t bad. Just drive slower and don’t slam on brakes.

We had a 2011 Durango and didn’t have any problems at all and we were in a cabin up in the mountains

A few years ago we got snowed in staying in Gatlinburg. They did plow the roads in town but everything else was mostly closed. Lots of shops were closed because employees couldn’t commute from Sieverville. Cabins were snowed in for a day or two. I think the low was around 5 degrees. It was a fun trip but it did close down a lot of trails and restaurants/businesses.
