I’ve been thinking of going there for a few years. Did you really book the Eleuthera trip without getting recs beforehand?

Well yeah, I don’t need recs from TD to book a trip. This just in, people have been there before. TD is always helpful with the off-beat things. Can you help with that? If not, eat dicks

I asked a question about a place. He asked why I booked a trip to a place Without getting recs first. That doesn’t help and demises my question. Sorry if I hurt your feelings.

I didn’t mean it as a dick, I meant it as kinda of awesome that you booked a trip to a place you wanted to go before researching particulars. Good for you, and sorry if I came across as a dick .

Where are you staying? Are you VRBO or something like French Leave? Will you have a car? How many traveling and ages?

Want a great time with a fishing charter? Ask for Captain Ruben at TyMan Charters and Adventures.

TyMan Chaters - Spanish Wells.

Lighthouse beach is usually a must-do adventure. Unfortunately, Disney bought the entire beach and last I heard they were already closing it off to the public and starting development.

A really cool place to visit, just south of winding bay. Take the unnamed road to the mouth of this lagoon.. Try to hit it during the tide moving in - great fishing, hundred of sea turtles, and you’ll see a shite ton of Caribbean reef and lemon sharks feeding in the shallow moving currents.

In rock sound, eat at Sammy’s Place.

Addition general advice:

- if you see a hitch hiker, give the person a ride, it’s very common practice. You’ll make a friend and come home with an interesting story.

- don’t be scared to try a road side conch stand. There’s a great one at Rock Sound, but you’ll find plenty all along the highway.

Last advice: explore the island. It is a true gem that god put on this earth. And the people are amazingly friendly.

Nothing to add except I'm heading to Long Island next month. Follow this just because we almost chose Eleuthera and will likely be next.

Flying into Nassau first I assume?

West side is calm, East side has significant waves at times.

It takes longer than you would think to drive the length of the island and there are very few street signs anywhere.

Hitchhiking is common and accepted.

Rental vehicles are beat to hell.

There is s community fish fry every Friday night at Governors Harbor. Not a huge block party, but a fun time and change of pace because there is not much night life to speak of.

Groceries are really expensive, and in short supply at times. Shipments only come to the island twice a week and some things go quickly.

I hate Disney!! Lighthouse Beach is a special place on this planet and anything they do to it will ruin the very things that made it special.

Flying in? What charter service are you using to get to Long Island?

Southern Air from Nassau. I was told Stella Maris Air Service will sell you extra seats they have on their planes and was the most dependable though.

Southern Air

I had a bad experience with them that cost me $$$$.
Be sure on your return home flight that you fly into Nassau 3 hours ahead our your scheduled departure from Nassau.
For example - If your flight out of Nassau back home is scheduled for 1:00 PM, be sure your flight from Long Island is scheduled to land in Nassau by 10:00 am.
I learned the hard way that Southern is notorious for being late and if you miss your flight home you have no leverage to recoup your losses.

Flights seem to be pretty cheap from MSY - ELH with AA. Can rent a 2 bedroom air BNB for a reasonable price as well... Tempting. You say groceries are hit and miss. I'd definitely like to have breakfast and lunch at the house everyday. Would I be able to make that happen?

I'd use a service like this to be sure.

The Market Provisioning

Thanks for info. I had option of getting back to Nassau 1:30 before flight home or 4 hours. Due to customs/covid etc I chose the 4 hours so I should be good!

We did Harbour island this summer and groceries weren't a problem. Bottled water was harder to find, but our airbnb came with a 5 gallon jug so we drank out of that.

We did breakfast at our house and packed sandwiches for lunch on the beach then dinner out each night. the beach rental huts have food and drinks you can buy there as well.

Harbour island has a little more stuff happening than the area around ELH and its just a 10 minute boat ride across the channel that was $5 per person

Yes, it should not be a problem, you will just have to adjust. You may not get the exact things you are used to buying/cooking, but there should be options.

And Harbor Island and Spanish Wells are completely different than the rest of the island, more populated, more options.
