I'm in a small venture to build short term rentals there. My buddy that's a contractor doesn't even build in Texas anymore...he hust builds in Hochatown.
It's a cool area. We go there 2-3 times a year and always have a good time.
I enjoy fishing where I am too much though to want to go there too often. Lake Eufala has good crappie and catfish fishing but the towns suck. Lake Texoma is better for short term rentals, but no inventory.

Lake Ouachita I a great lake. Spent a few days on it with my ski boat a few years back. Really a pretty place.
My ski boat has a digital depth finder on the console and I normally don’t pay it much attention. I usually know the lake I’m on so I already know the shallow spots.
Anyway we were skiing lake Ouachita and I cut into a cove. I glanced down and I caught the depth gauge out of the corner of my eye. I immediately shut down the throttle. I thought it had droppped off to about 9.9 feet and I didn’t want to run aground especially in the rocky bottom. I looked a little closer at the depth gauge and it had dropped from 100 feet deep down to 99 feet deep and I was only about 50 yards from the bank. Lol Just not used to a lake that deep.
The next day we hauled the boat over to lake Hamilton and I hit bottom the first 30 minutes and bent my prop. Lake Ouachita is just so much better than Hamilton.

It was great 20 years ago when it was just locals and we Northeast Texans. They never invested in infrastructure but they keep building cabins and now a resort casino. Bubble has to pop soon.
It was great @20 years ago. I may have seen 3 other fly fishermen the whole day on the river. I would pick a random Tuesday and just do a day trip. It really was a little, cool, getaway about 3 hours from home.
I would go multiple times a year up until about 4 years ago or so. Went for the first time in dec of 22 and what a nightmare. People out the arse and lots of traffic.
