I stayed at the Casa Marina this year. You can walk to Duval St from there or just rent bikes and ride.

When I was there two weeks ago, I stayed at The Reach, which is the Casa Marina's sister property. It's very nice, is on the best stretch of natural beach on the island, and is several blocks closer to Duval than the Casa Marina. I chose The Reach over the Casa Marina because of the many bad reviews that Casa Marina has gotten saying that they need to renovate their rooms -- people complaining about musty smells, stains on furniture, etc.

My wife and I finished a 5 night trip in Key West staying at the Casa Marina in early December and recommend the hotel. It is an older hotel with a historic charm to it, but still very comfortable. Overall, it has a great resort layout with pool, beach, and ocean front cocktails and dinner. Also, definitely rent bikes - much easier getting around. The Casa Marina had a bike rental attached to their resort that was like $20/day or $60/week.

Reel Therapy Charters with Captain Jim Peabody out of Big Pine Key. Highly recommend him if you'd like to book a charter. He came highly recommended after searching through TD. He was a great captain who put us on plenty of fish after struggling with some abnormally very cold weather and water. Really nice guy, him and the co-captain worked their butts off helping my wife. Conveniently, he lives right behind Casa Marina and picked up and dropped us off at our hotel since we did not have a car. The hotel cooked our catch that night at $25/person.

Places:
Ernest Hemingway House tour. Definitely worth the visit. I think $20/person.
Truman Annex/Little White House - nice high dollar neighborhood to ride around. However, we didn't do the Little White House tour.
Fort Zachary Taylor Historic State Park - historical fort and great ocean views. $2.50/bike to visit.

Food/Drinks:
Blue Heaven - great dinner experience. Also, stopped by the following day for a beer and fantastic Key Lime Pie.
Pepe's Cafe - quiet little cafe worth a stop for lunch. Key Lime Pie is also delicious.
Green Parrot Bar - cool dive bar to grab a couple beers
Sloppy Joe's - this seemed more like a touristy institution since it's tied to Hemingway, but worth it for a beer.
Moondog Cafe - we grabbed dinner here, but supposedly a hopping spot for brunch.

we just got back from key west, a few thoughts:

1) Santiagos Bodega was very legit, great Tapas
2) Blue Heaven for brunch was slightly overrated. still very good but not god-like some people have described it as.
3) Latitudes is a great experience but the food was not very good for the price, over $230 for two people.
4) Better Than Sex is a must visit. One of the highlights of the trip.
5) Definitely go to Louie's Backyard. It was the best meal we had.
6) Vino's on Duval, Rum House, and Banana Cafe were all good and random stops on Duval.

7) Dry Tortugas....Do not go in rough seas. My god, the boat literally jumped off the sea multiple times. People were throwing up left and right. And i'm not knowledgeable about how you are supposed to captain a boat in rough seas, but these guys were blazing speed through it

Overall, we loved key west. Southernmost Resort was top tier and the pools were excellent. Highly recommend it.
