Outside of the typical Steamboat, Breckenridge, Aspen, etc...anyone have any experience with their families at smaller resorts like Crested Butte or others? Since Mardi Gras isn't happening, considering trying a ski trip with the family.

Don't need a big city, but at least would like to have places to eat and be able walk around.

Purgatory is a good one that doesn’t get as crowded. Wolf Creek is another that has amazing powder.

If you are looking for Cheap; Angel Fire, NM. Very small town. We have been during Mardi Gras and there were quite a few LSU people all over the place.

If you don’t feel like making the trek out west, Snowshoe WV is the best as far as Eastern skiing. It’s definitely a little remote but worth the drive

I agree, but Vail is just too damn expensive. Ski school and lift tickets are almost double compared to other places.

Are you looking for a beginner resort with young or inexperienced members? Grandby Ranch is my top pick for that category.

If you are good skiiers, it's hard to beat Arapahoe Basin. But definitely not somewhere you go without some experience, the altitude and difficulty make it pretty rough if you can't handle blacks

Park City is probably not really lesser-known but it’s nice to be at the resort 45 minutes after getting off the plane.

Pro: Champagne powder.
Con: when you order a double liquor drink it comes as a side car.

Angel Fire is a nice little town. New Mexico has some good places to ski. Does anyone go to Red River anymore?

This trip will be with my family and another one. I'm the only one who has been more than one time, so I'm not looking for anything more than a fun place to go that isn't too crowded.

ABasin back bowl is the best riding IMO. Love that place. Atmosphere is so much better than Breck too
