Go inside the Ryman - preferably for a show, but at least do the tour.
They also have a little studio where you can record a song (whether from their karaoke-type tracks or an original). That was fun, to record at the Ryman. My daughter especially enjoyed it.

Any must do's or recommendations.
If you like history The Hermitage (Andrew Jackson’s home) and Franklin, TN are worth a visit. The Carnton Plantation was interesting in Franklin. Franklin is about 30 minutes south of Radnor SP.
We like Arnold’s Country Kitchen for a meat & 3 veg. It’s about a block from Peg Leg Porker.
Cheekwood Botantical Gardens has a small cafe that was really good; they may only do lunch. There is an entrance fee to the gardens.

The Gulch is a "safe" popular place. It has your typical boutique shops and restaurants. It is in West Nashville close to Vanderbilt's campus
You're confused The Gulch is basically downtown. It's the fringe area that's undergone complete renewal. Now, 12-South and Hillsboro Village are similar type areas and both are close to Candy's campus.

As a resident of Franklin I'd have to agree. It's a great place to visit but very different from what most people want from a trip to Nashville.
Most visitors want to spend time on Broadway, 2nd Ave, Printers Alley, and Tooties.
Don't forget about the Country Music Hall of Fame or The Ryman.

I go to Nashville damn near every other weekend, my gf lives in east, and I haven't spent much time at all in Franklin but it seems like a really nice place. We need to go explore down there one day.

My sorority sister who was a long time Nashville DJ says 3rd and Lindsay for Backstage Nashville or anything there. It’s more of a singer/songwriter kind of place.

We went to 3rd and Lindsley 2 nights in a row back in April, first night was a Pink Floyd tribute band, and the second was a Steely Dan tribute band. We partied that weekend lol Probably the most fun I've ever had in Nashville.

I live in Nashville. If you can be more specific about your interests, I am sure I can help.

Bourbon St Blues and Boogie in Printers Alley. Check out Stacey Mitchhart if he’s playing.

Robert's Western World is one of my favorite bars. Always a good classic country band with great musicians playing.

Try Urban Grub for dinner on the patio. Get the pork chop.
Sunday Brunch at The Sutler with live music is good.
Go to Bare Bones Butcher for lunch. Get a sandwich Togo and go next door to Harding House Brewing. They are cool with this and the sammie will be great.
If you are in town for a Sunday night, St. Vito has a popup restaurant inside Hawthorne which does not disappoint.
The new Bearded Iris taproom at Sylvan Park is a great place to grab a beer.
Robert’s Western World is the best spot on Lower Broadway.
Black Rabbit and Skulls Rainbow Room are across the street from each other in Printers Alley and worth a visit at night for a few hours.
Score some tickets to The Bluebird Cafe. It’s worth the hassle.
Hike Radnor Lake in the morning.
Cocktails at Mother’s Ruin is a good time.
Peg Leg Porker for pulled pork.
Martin’ BBQ for wings.
Edley’s is good for brisket.

Yeah, we love Nashville. It is tame compared to San Diego and Seattle, in a good way. You just have to be okay with Bachelorette parties on bike bars.

Make sure you eat joeys house of pizza. The best pizza I’ve ever had. Also make sure everyone in the car goes inside to witness the madness. It’s family owned and the daughter is entertaining.

Regarding Tim Akers and the Smoking Section. I saw that Tim died, but his son stepped in, and the band is still playing and booking shows. Great nights of live music by some of the best players in the city.

Arrington Vineyards is pretty cool if you like wine, it's south of Nashville about 30 minutes.

Bumping this thread looking for some good areas to stay in Nashville...looking at an AirBnb/VRBO (two young kids & my parents joining us)
Our initial idea is to stay near Germantown, but there are more options in places like East Nashville. Ideally, we'd like somewhere we can walk to restaurants/bars/etc but overall just want a safe area.
Any recs are appreciated

As mentioned earlier in this thread, I am in East Nashville a lot, and I've never felt unsafe there, and there are tons of restaurants, bars, and breweries within walking distance of most of the neighborhoods there. Shelby Bottoms Park is a very cool park there with hiking trails, wildlife, and pretty scenery.
