We are doing 4 days in Scottsdale and then 4 days in Sedona. Will be renting a Jeep so we can do trails etc. I do photography so looking forward to getting some good landscape shots. We will be going to the Grand Canyon one day but will make it just one day trip and also go by Horseshoe Bend. Wish the Antelope Canyon was open but it isn't open yet.

Where did you rent a Jeep through? Was a Jeep tour or a rented a Jeep for your whole stay?

I haven’t rented yet. There are a couple places at the airport but scarce availability.

Sedona cant wait. More restaurant recommendations are appreciated!

Here's a list of all the places we ate, with my comments on each. I'll list them in order from best to worst...

1. Elote - A must-go place when you're in Sedona. Not sure if they take reservations since moving, but they didn't when we went. We only waited about 45 minutes for a table. I still have dreams about the Carne Asada, and the wife's chicken enchiladas were fantastic.

2. Tortas de Fuego - Nothing fancy about this place. Has a hole-in-the-wall feel. It was taco night when we went so that's all we had. The chorizo ones were my favorite.

3. Spoke & Wheel Tavern - it's in a hotel, and when we went it was empty so I was concerned. Food was really good though, and the service was great. Typical bar food with a Southwest flair.

4. Mariposa - I had high hopes for this place, but the food just didn't match the price. Cool place and the service was good, but not sure I'd go back. All 4 of us felt the same way.

5. Pisa Lisa - Just a pizza place in an old Pizza Hut building. I believe they're wood fired pizzas. Not the best pizza I've had, but still pretty good.

6. Oak Creek Brewery & Grill - Gotta be honest, this place felt like a tourist trap. Beer was average, at best, and food was just kinda okay. Server knew nothing about the beers.

7. Oaxaca - Definite tourist trap. The owner of the house we rented said most of the places near it(north of the main intersection in town) are pretty bad. We ate there the first day before we knew any better. Expensive and just not good.

And not in Sedona, but I'd definitely plan a trip to Jerome and eat at the Haunted Hamburger.

Yep, very doable. Look into the Verde Canyon Train ride for the little one. It’s a fun way to see a lot of the landscape with kids that age.

Definitely get the VIP tickets, it’s well worth the little extra money

They seem to take reservations. Was hoping to go on the 26th for our anniversary, but they are already booked up on open table Will try to call them tomorrow.

The OP has an 8 year old. Is Sedona a destination recommended to take a 2 year old? We are trying to decide our vacation plans this summer, and Sedona is a top consideration.

I'd probably wait a few years, at least. Most of what Sedona has to offer is outdoorsy stuff, especially hiking. That's not the only draw, and we saw several families there with smaller kids, but to really experience it I'd think the kids would need to be older. There are easy hikes there, but just thinking back when my kids were 2, I wouldn't want to take a 2 year old on most of the hikes there. Hot, dry climate, sandy desert trails with fairly decent elevation changes.

Not sure what people that don't enjoy the outdoors do there though.

Some of those supposed vortexes are a good hike to get to them. We saw an old hippie couple doing yoga at the one by Cathedral Rock. That's a pretty difficult hike to get up to for someone not used to light scrambling over rocks.

I can attest to this. Did a hike and there was a half naked Native American man playing a flute on top of this rock formation. That’s when I knew we must be close to the vortex (we were just going hiking, I don’t believe in that made up shite). I think this was 2-3 miles into the hike.

When we were coming back from that trail we ran into half naked man again and he presented us all with heart shaped red rocks and some stuff about wishing peace of the vortex or some hippie shite like that. I took the rock cause it was a cool looking rock

Wasn't Sedona one of those Harmonic Convergence sites?

Concur, and if you can only do one do Elote.

I completely disagree with this. Elite was one of our worst meals there and Mariposa was one of the best meals I’ve ever eaten.

Sedona is awesome! My wife and I just finished living there all January in uptown Sedona.

We stopped in Scottsdale for one night on our drive to Sedona. Ate at Fat Ox which was a great meal with fantastic service. Also, for a quick walk with kids, the Scottsdale Civic Center was a small, but ridiculously manicured park with fountains. For some reason, this little park found a soft spot and stuck with me.

Hit up any restaurant by Lisa Dahl for a good meal - of hers we tried Mariposa, Dahl & Di Luca, Butterfly Burger, and Pisa Lisa. Do be warned, most of the nicer restaurants in Sedona are booked days in advance.
- Butterfly: fancy casual burger place that was very tasty. No reservations were necessary.
- Mariposa: had a great experience. Beautiful views and great food. Kind of unique options.
- Dahl & Di Luca is a delicious Italian spot.
- Pisa Lisa is a solid spot for pie and a beer. Reservations in person only. Be sure to get here early could be a wait due to COVID table spacing.
- Elote: great margaritas and Southwestern/Mexican food.

There's hiking around every corner for every difficulty level. For more challenging hikes we did Bear Mountain and Munds Wagon/Hangover Loop Trail. Cathedral Trail is a short, but sort of challenging if you're not used to scrambling up rocks. Besides Devils Bridge, this is one of the more crowded trails. Speaking of Devils Bridge, we started hiking around 7:30 and still had to wait 15 minutes for a picture. Once we finished our picture, the line was minimum 30-45 minutes. Brins Mesa was one of my favorites - not too crowded, spectacular valley views, just challenging enough, and do the loop on Soldiers Pass to the caves. The Airport Loop is a more reasonable hike with great views to all directions of Sedona.

Last, the Tlaquepaque Shopping Center was pretty neat with cool crafts and whatnot. This was the best place to shop for gifts and whatnot.

Also, the drive up Hwy 89A to Flagstaff is pretty amazing through the valley and switchbacks.

Hope this helps.

Leaving this week for 5 days doing this same thing.

Flying into Phoenix and 1 day in Phoenix area. Rest in Sedona & a day trip to the GC. My family of 4 won't be hiking down so I figured the scenic stops along the trail road would be fine as others have recommended, and honestly, it looked like all the hotels around the GC were dumps so thats why a day trip so we can explore more of Sedona/Flagstaff/Jerome area.

Rented Jeeps w sedonajeeprentals.com by Barlow Adventures as a rec from a friend who's done it already.

Reservations a Mariposa already...and came highly recommended from a friend who's been recently. I'll check into some these others mentioned in this thread.

Had some other good recs thanks to the Travel Board as well!

There was a wedding couple there getting wedding pics done and they were hogging the area for a good 10-15 minutes. Luckily it wasn't super crowded so we were able to get out of there rather quickly.

I think the Ramshead Trail was one of our favorites. It gets little traffic, and one section hugs the cliff face over the Crescent Moon picnic area. We scrambled down the cliff face and walked down Oak Creek for a while. A lot of local families having picnics there.

Just got back from our trip. What a blast.

IMO Grand Canyon definitely doable 1 day. It was amazing to see!

As recommended the drive North of Sedona to Flagstaff on 89A was incredible! Still had some snow up there on the tops which made it even more breathtaking.

Scottsdale was pretty, but I wish we had more time in Sedona. The Jeep ride was fun and so much to see there.
